In this trial, XFINITY Internet Economy Plus customers can choose to enroll in the Flexible-Data Option to receive a $5.00 credit on their monthly bill and reduce their data usage plan from 300 GB to 5 GB. If customers choose this option and use more than 5 GB of data in any given month, they will not receive the $5.00 credit and will be charged an additional $1.00 for each gigabyte of data used over the 5 GB included in the Flexible-Data Option.

$5 credit to lose 295GB/month. What is the monthly pricing now? You're probably better off with an unlimited mobile plan.

we offer additional gigabytes in increments/blocks of 50 GB for $10.00 each in the event the customer exceeds their included data amount.XFINITY Internet Economy Plus customers can choose to enroll in the Flexible-Data Option to receive a $5.00 credit on their monthly bill and reduce their data usage plan from 300 GB to 5 GB

Can we pause for a minute and recognize that they will pay you 5 dollars not to use 295 gb of data then turn around and charge 10 bucks for 50 gbs? lol

Makes me wonder why some other company with a ton of money doesn't just swoop in and destroy comcast with superior pricing and service. From what it seems the only people who use comcast have it as the only option.

making a new isp has ridiculous start up cost to be seriously competitive
on top of that the oligarchy in place tries incredibly hard to sustain itself
google is basically the only tech company interested in being an ISP that can afford to lay new wire and has a genuine interest in providing service
and even if they do manage to get their service up and running i think it's pretty obvious that just being an ISP isn't so lucrative that businesses can sustain themselves on it

Likely a combination of laws (which make it hard or expensive to get in the area) and the fact most telecomm companies have (probably illegal) agreements to let each other have monopolies in certain areas so they all benefit.

How bad can they get... Literally fuckin their costumers over.

I haven't had or heard of data caps here in Portugal since 2004, that was 10 years ago.

This is because Obama will encourage the FCC to make ISP's become a common utility or w/e classification, and just like for power or water the ISP's will charge you for usage. Except it'll be at water bottle prices instead of tap water prices.

Comcast paid for our mayor (opposing the one who supported city-wide fiber)

One of the more upsetting things is that not everyone knows what a GB is. That's not necessarily the upsetting part. The upsetting part is that many of them probably use Comcast and will be overcharged for reasons they more than likely won't comprehend until it's too late.

This is literally a scam.
