CHERRYEven if they ban players for being too good, which indeed would be kinda sad, what do you care?
the people unknowingly playing on servers devoid of things like spam and good players will never get good at the game. they won't even know how bad they are.
once in a blue moon, someone from servers like this come into newbie mixes and despite having 500+ hours in tf2, their movement/ dodging would make you think that they have never seen a keyboard before. it's sad almost, knowing that they've wanted to be getting better but due to things they didn't realize they're just as shit as when they started over a year ago due to something they have no control over. :(

AustinDo you guys ever realize the same people we're calling retarded in this thread are the people we need to make sure our game doesn't die?
Haha nah
Also this. If you want this game to sustain stop acting like you're better. You're good at the game that doesn't matter to the outside world. Sorry, but you feel superior only because you stay in this community and it's a 50% of the world for you. If people keep being like that on the forums or in the lobbies I doubt any of the people betting will get into comp.

I kind of agree with that pubs don't let players improve as much as they could, but the reason for spawn camping rule is that there are much more players on pub servers and it becomes a group activity after a while, add to that lack of communication and people going for frags and you get a typical 24/7 ctf_2fort server.
Communities cannot enforce teamwork or communication so they stick to rules, since there are only a few servers where people call and do the other stuff.
Plus there's this difference between how you and them see the game, you care about self improvement and being the best, they care about good fun, taking fun screenshot, conging etc. so why not?

ubercharge is a mechanic
airblast is a mechanic
you can knock the sticks off with rockets
you can knock the sticks off with stickies
you can destroy the sticks with scottish resistance
you can destroy the sticks with scorch shot
you can destroy the sticks with detonator
you can destroy the sticks with literally any hitscan weapon
you can kritz out of spawn if enough idiots are right next to the door
you can deadring out of spawn
you can switch spawns in 2fort
these are all mechanics that are easy to use and will help these players in all aspects of the game. there's literally no reason to kick or ban for spawn camping other than being really fucking ignorant to how tf2 works.
which is funny because the same people that get mad at spawncamping don't like competitive because of the restrictive unlocks.

You're delusional if you think people like this Dustee idiot are ever going to be any way interested in comp TF2. People like them are perfectly content to pub for eternity whining about stickies while handicapping the basic components of the game so their playerbase can feel good playing spy/sniper/pyro for 10,000 hours.
This thread isnt a collective shitting on every player in their community. Its literally just complaining about how stupid spawncamping rules are. People that get legitimately interested in comp will not look at this thread and say "Wow they look down upon spawmcamping rules and idiotic admins? I don't think I can do this anymore."
Quit your idiotic preaching.

That wasn't what I meant at all, what I meant was more that you're on your own and there's more than single demo sticking. You can't count on scouts to check or open shutters so you can fire a few rockets, you can't count on your team mates to go back and get rid of the "camping" guy, the best you can do is airblast or knock them, but either way it'll be a spamfest right after you do it since there is more than a single demo.
I am not a top player and I don't play highlander so I can't say I know everything about the game, but I played both competitive and pubs and know that they are no comparable, you can't count on your teammates and with shit unlocks and no class limits you can't clearly predict what will happen, it's not like I'm saying that getting out of the spawn is impossible or hard, but I've been on the other side and it's no fun for an average pubber, so why not let them do what they want.

As much as it pains me to defend them, that's incorrect. We might not want people this this Dustee guy, but you better believe he's not going to let this slip. He's an admin of a community, one in which we need. We're suppossed to encourage pubbers to try competitve. No where in this fucking thread are we advocating a march on the houses of the admin's of this server. Both you and that El_Beno idiot have somehow implied we're going to start a political revolution for the cause of Dave__AC over this.
All we are doing is taking something we find funny and discussing the idiocy of spawncamping rules/the admins decision.
There is no seriousness or outward motivation in this thread. We are literally here shooting the breeze about this retarded pub incident. It is not connected to some desire to sway the oh so venerable TI admins hearts and minds, nor does it reflect upon reaching the pub community to grow the comp community.
My god this thread was enjoyable now its just tragic.

It doesn't matter if he's an admin or not he's got friends, this topic is public, we're building an image.
Also I didn't mean anyone in general or just this thread. Bounce rate in the TF2 is uncomparable with other games because of no matchmaking, huge learning curve and attitude towards new players (not like most of the players rage on newbies, but even one guy can turn a lot of people off from the comp).

I'd rather this game die competitively than devolve into 12 year olds that get upset when people use mechanics of the game to their advantage.
If you think players that are bad enough to not understand that there are ways to counter things like spawn camping are going to look at getting into this game competitively, you're lying to yourself.

All of the admins of the server I played on were total asshats that played comp but I still was interested and realized they were just asshats. I recognize that the more the merrier. But people are sitting here saying pubbers are fragile children who will be completely swayed by the voice of their admins when in reality they're just guys/girls playing a videogame.
If they find comp to be interesting they're not going to just drop their interest because the admin that they likely don't care about/or like says he was shittalked on a forum about spawncamping.
Pls.

Idk first 2 pages were enjoyable, 3rd was when it started to be bad, my fault was explaining their reason for banning spawncamping, I should just stick to let them play however they want thing or help them instead of making fun of.

i might have even gotten upset about getting spawn camped (if i wasnt oblivious and actually noticed i was dying the second i walked outside spawn) at one point
i still looked at competitive later. if we shit on pubbers who don't have the same knowledge of tf2 that you do, they probably won't look at competitive later when they are better because they look at us as elitists, .
sure, the admin of the server probably knew these mechanics but i can understand having rules against spawn camping so that newer players who do not know how to deal with 8 stickies on a spawn door can still have fun. and if people ask you to stop spawn camping even after you tell them how to clear stickies, why not? you could just leave the server and join another that isnt as strict with the rules if you're intent on spawn camping but there are probably other ways for you to have fun in this game too.

I'd rather this game die competitively than devolve into 12 year olds that get upset when people use mechanics of the game to their advantage.
If you think players that are bad enough to not understand that there are ways to counter things like spawn camping are going to look at getting into this game competitively, you're lying to yourself.[/quote]

this is how you learn. that's what i'm saying dude. was i upset the first time i was spawn camped? yeah sure. does it frustrate me still? yeah, if my team is full of idiots. but if your team is being spawn camped, they probably deserve it. they did something stupid or are just very bad.

Why don't we get rid of a few tftv hosted servers and start a pub dedicated to advertising comp tf2? Sounds simple but it might be helpful. It appeals to stupid pubbers and gets the message out about comp tf2

So instead of letting the players deal with the problem so that they can learn about the mechanics of the game like good game design allows, we just ban players from every attempting to force newer players to learn the game.
Yeah that sounds like a really fun and exciting way to play that will surely produce players that aren't brain dead or coddled brats.
Fuck me, why am I still responding to this shit. I'm out. I got finals.

Maybe I should take up rallying political revolutions, if it's something I can do without intending too.
I tried to point out that the only reason this thread exists is because of futures love/hate boner for the TI community and the only reason anyone paid it any attention was because of Dave__AC's name on it, it was supposed to get people to come in and laugh at silly pub communities and their 'rules'. But hey that must have gone over peoples heads if they think I want to start revolutions.

I would really like to get involved in something like that, we need something with a basic rotation of cp maps and have folks on there being vocal about everything in regards to the competitive format. This can even apply to highlander, hell, lost continents has been doing it right for god knows how long. You would just need the consistent player base, and with that in mind I think we can accomplish that.

El_Benoit was supposed to get people to come in and laugh at silly pub communities and their 'rules'.
Quite frankly, I'm not laughing. As someone who was a legitimate founding member from the 352nd, I'm actually quite embarrassed by what TI has become and how you guys have reacted to this. This nanny-state damage control is pathetic. The rule-breaker shitlist was never used and never SUPPOSED to be used as some KGB/NSA-tier record keeper on everyone who broke the rules (seemingly or otherwise) like what you guys have done for Dave, it was meant for people who were legitimately hackers (why'd you have to do it Ezell) or facetious people who broke the rules for the sake of breaking them.

The point is that you have extended far over the boundary of what is acceptable in "reprimanding" someone. You shouldn't even be here. Not like Dave is actually looking at this in the first place but you've come to his last known e-watering hole to start an argument with people in his most recent community about something completely irrelevant that shouldn't have even made it to the TI forums at the heart of it all.
You're a pompous disgrace.

adding to what gr8stalin said, this does nothing but piss people off, which is clearly your intent right now. just stop, no one here cares as much as you. they are kindly trying to explain to you why your thought process is fundamentally wrong and all you're responding with is insults and "comp tf2 circlejerk amirite".

In all seriousness though, Kevin is 100% correct with post #92. I was one of those career 2fort engineers for a lonnngggg time and playing on Pro like Chro is what flipped the switch. Playing against all those good players and seeing amazing things like rocket jumping soldiers, airshots, scouts that could dip and dodge while hitting shots, and snipers hitting crazy air-headshots (fox u da man) inspired me (and many others) to up my own game. Had I never had that realization of how awful I really was at this game, and how much of a gap there was between me and the "average" competitive player, I'm not sure I would've ever even been interested in comp TF2.
For those of you who don't know what Pro like Chro and Insane like Train means, they were TF2 servers years ago where a bunch of competitive players would hang out and pub on competitive maps.

there's no need to be mean like that dude.
i'm not trying to be mean or rude or hurtful or anything. i really want him to understand where i'm coming from.
and dustee, you should consider taking your full name and what city you live in off your steam page. that's not typically a good idea.

My whole point here was to defend a community that I've been playing on for almost 4 years now. All I did was explain the situation and attempted to make everybody understand where we were coming from. And now you guys are going to my profile and exploiting it? This thread has really given me a salty taste for the TF2 competitive community, so I'm sure as hell never going on this website again. Came with good intentions, leaving with Salt. Congrats. Feel good about yourselves!
