558's for that cheap will definitely be more worth it.
Why is the base price for 558's $100 more on amazon.ca Vs .com

Get some HyperX Clouds if you want a headset.
But like everything else it's all about personal preference, I've had the headphones + microphone set up for years and I love having a headset now.

the sennheiser hd558 will produce sound that is more accurate than the logitech
plus all 7.1 headset are gimmicky/scams, how can the g35 produce true 7.1 if it only has 2 drivers? steer clear of these type of headsets
zalman clip on mic are a standard nowadays and provide excellent quality
edit: apparantly the hyperx cloud pros are rebranded takstar pro80 monitors with a mic slapped on it, those are really good drivers

if ur on a budget those are a strong price point newegg for $100, plus the mic is probably alot better than the zalman

Why are these your options? What's your budget?
Going by sound quality the HD558s should be better than anything else mentioned in this thread so far.
Some measurements:
HD558s
Takstar Pro80s
I doubt you'd be able to find proper measurements for the Logitech headsets, they're simply not good enough to even bother.
There's other options than the Zalman clip on mic, with the modmic being the elephant in the room, they depend on your budget though.
If you want the best sound quality, headphones + mic.
If you want a "headset", headphones + modmic or the /v/ ghetto version of it.

7.1 is all software. It can work pretty well, however it's absolutely pointless. I've tested one of the better implementations with proper headphones and I could identify 7 "speakers". The problem is I don't want to be able to recognize the different speakers in a 7.1 setup. The point is to have proper surround sound and with headphones a stereo to binaural software or simply selecting headphones in game instead of 7.1 works far better.

i'm with Rick on this.
adding to that: a pair of headphones + a microphone will (typically) end up being of higher quality. i know that plenty of headsets are fine, but (typically) you will be paying for the comfort, and not for quality.
he's definitely right about surround sound from headphones as well..
at most, use software to simulate surround sound for headphones.
nasty gimmickses
