Please turn off Steam's notification sound while streaming as it's very confusing.
Thank you.

I always get confused. But then again I get confused on a regular basis, so maybe not that much of an issue.

I would like it if streamers had a custol notification sound, so I can't confuse it with my own. Though I realise this is an unfair request.

If it's that much of a bother use your own custom notification sound

Yo but what if two streamers use the same custom notification??? Then I'm all confused as to which stream I'm watching...

This. Exact same effect. I did this for a long time until an update undid it and I didn't care enough to fix it. Now I just deal with it.

I usually know it's not me because none of my friends want to talk to me.

I personally use the startup sound for Big Picture mode for message notifications; it's nice and smooth so I don't jump about a mile when it's 1am and I get a message while half asleep.

BP sound file: Steam\tenfoot\resource\sounds\activation.wav

Make a copy of it and name it message and stick it in Steam\friends and you're good to go

Edit: fuck i forgot steam broke sound modding, see post #16 to use my workaround

It was implied in my post that a fix was available on my end, I just can't be bothered. Hence "unfair" and "I would like it if" rather than "pls streamers fix u r cancur of tf2"

Streamers, don't increase the quality of your streams. Especially if it's a small thing like this.

I tried this and it didn't play a sound at first. I restarted Steam and the file was overwritten with the default noise again. I tried again but made the sound read only, and it worked. Then I restarted Steam and the file was overwritten again.

If it's possible I think you're leaving out an important step!

Sadly you have to replace the file each time you start Steam, I've just made a batch file to make copying the file easier though. CHANGE THE FILE DIRECTORIES TO FIT YOUR SETUP.

•Make a copy of activation.wav and place it on your desktop
•Rename the file to message.wav
•Open Notepad/Notepad++ and copy this shit in:

@Echo off
xcopy /y C:\Users\Owner\Desktop\message.wav E:\Steam\friends

•Save the file as replacerino.bat

Run the file after starting up Steam and you'll be using the custom one.

You didn't have to do this before; an update in 2013 broke Steam sound modding 8(

thanks! you're the man :)

Also nearly everyone else, just chill. It was just a suggestion from my side as I could easily imagine that they are not aware of this however serious or not it is. It's the small things like this that matter and no, I didn't know you could change sounds, I thought I could only disable it.
