How does Arena Respawn Work?
Arena: Respawn is a modification of TF2's Arena gamemode developed as an alternative to sixes, created by awk. Your goal is to eliminate the enemy team as quickly as possible. There are no respawn timers, but you can capture the central control point to respawn the dead members of your team.
Camping the point while you already own it will result in a minicrit debuff until you leave the capture area. The only weapon banned from play is the Vaccinator; all other weapons in the game are allowed, and players are encouraged to experiment with different loadouts and strategies.
You can learn more at the official A:R Steam Group AND if you want to practice before the showdown, you can do so on their public servers.

East Coast USA (New York, NY): connect east01.respawn.tf
West Coast USA (San Francisco, CA): connect west01.respawn.tf
London, England: connect london01.respawn.tf
These servers run a modified version of Arena: Respawn with additional crit mechanics. The crit mechanics present on these servers are not present in competitive play.
The Pro Battle League (PBL) is also accepting signups for teams interested in playing A:R pick-up games. Get details in the PBL Steam Group.
Rules and Gameplay:
This event will be a ladder-match style tournament that randomly places 5-man teams against one another to determine a winner. After that, winners will go on to play other winners in the next bracket.
This continues until we have a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place team.

Thanks for hosting a tournament! This forum is mainly a 6v6 thing but it's good to see people sponsoring the game regardless of format.
Not many people from these forums will sign up for this because (honestly) A:R in it's current form is pretty bad. This is a format that's probably good for your community to play in but the vast majority of actually competitive players really hate arena respawn.
When will prizes be announced?

Is that why you're signed up for it, then?

I'm signed up for it to have some fun and to further develop my opinion on the format. I don't actively hate the format like many people in the community, but I do think 6s and highlander are much better. I totally dig how you made an account just to call me out though.
I don't want to start anything, I just want to play video games.
Edit: also I haven't seen a map list anywhere. Has that been decided and I've just missed it? Or will it be announced soon?

Not to be pedantic but since when is this forum mainly a 6v6 thing??? It says right there in the header, Teamfortress.tv: the home of competitive TF2, we might not have a lot of HL players and etc here (maybe because they prefer other forums) but that doesn't demerit the discussion of other competitive gamemodes other than 6v6 here, or at least it shouldn't in my opinion, you just hosted a ultiduo tourney (which is another competitive gamemode) so you should know better.
This is of course disregarding the fact that A:R is completely awful.

KevinIsPwnI don't want to start anything, I just want to play video games.
I know that feel. I didn't want to start anything, I just wanted to make a fun server mod. Suddenly it's all gone political.
If you have any suggestions for me to make A:R less "bad," (or, as Kaneco has just posted, "completely awful") feel free to hit me up on Steam. Usually competitive players just shout at me a bunch, though.

Or he made this account to see the announcement and participate in the discussion Kevin since he's a gamemode's author :P
Kevin was right though in that most 6v6 players dislike A:R (and sometimes even a Highlander), but honestly I think we should just let it develop, if not play it then watch it or just not hate on it, someone is trying something new and there's nothing bad in it especially if it can make pub players more interested in the competitive side of the game.

I know many 6s players don't like the A:R format but I was asked to post it here for those who are interested. It's a 5v5 mode and 1st place prizes are up. I was confirming model numbers before posting. 2nd and 3rd place prizes will go up shortly as well. I'm trying to organize a badge for all participants.
What we're trying to do here is something different for those who are interested in it and something to bring members of all the various TF2 communities together. Don't like it? Don't sign up. No one's forcing you. It's just a friendly invitation. :)

Perhaps we should stop with the posts from both sides and let the tournament speak for itself? (Or at least start a new thread to debate on Arena Respawn.)
Although it doesn't appear it's being cast, unless I'm missing something, so I guess we'll have to keep our ears open to hear how it went.
