being a stereotypical NYer, im obsessed with the stuff, and ive always settled for convenience store coffee on the go or the keurig at home

ive found that like 75% of all the keurig K cup that i buy are super watered down low strength, its so wack

I have started using some kona hawaiian coffee in the "fill your own" kcup, and its good, im back to buying bean coffee

Im a caffiene junky so trying new coffee with great taste and high caffiene is great, please recommend in the thread for the good of coffee heads

how do you guys like your coffee? whats your favorite bean to order from online?

also any recommendations on a espresso machine?

i just ordered this, should be good

Medium dark roasts are my favorite. French press is much preferred for brewing as well.

My all time favorite bean is https://nmpinoncoffee.com/ Its a hard flavour to describe but its really excellent. Although not hyper caffeinated.

I actually love Dunkin' Donuts coffee. The K-Cups are awesome - although they can be overpriced if you buy them at the wrong place.

I started getting into coffee more recently after I realized how much money I spent on Starbucks. I got a french press and a Hario burr grinder from Amazon, and I'm still messing around with different brewing ratios and beans.

If you've never tried cold brew, I'd highly recommend it, especially if you have to go to work in the morning regularly. There are some good guides on the internet, but basically you use a higher coffee/water ratio (and a lot more of both in general), then let it steep for 12-24 hours (either room temp or in the fridge). You'll end up with a huge pot of really strong coffee that is instantly ready to go, and because it's stronger you don't need as much. It was great for just pouring a quick glass and heading out the door in the morning instead of going through the whole 10~ minute process of a french press.

For simple strong cups I use a Vietnamese coffee thing. It takes crap coffee and makes it mostly palatable.

Green tea for work doesn't give a caffeine buzz but still satisfies me :)

there's an abundance of great coffee here in the PNW but i like stumptown the best, especially the ethiopian blends

http://puu.sh/eVi4Z/4a37b06f83.jpg

I love my french press but can see the appeal of an aeropress. I think a regular french press gives a more full bodied flavor if you're into that

though most days i get my caffeine fix from: http://drinkviso.com/

i have a pretty nice setup at home for espresso, which is all i drink

usual coffee i buy: Jose's 100% colombian from costco http://www2.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11982968&whse=BD_563&Ne=5000001%204000000&eCat=BD_563|95904|95956&N=4055902%204294908782&Mo=0&No=0&Nr=P_CatalogName:BD_563&lang=en-US&topnav=..

my choice for coffee beans when i want something more: Lavazza ( http://www.amazon.com/Lavazza-Super-Crema-Espresso-2-2-Pound/dp/B000SDKDM4 )

whole bean only, kept in cabinet, dont refrigerate/freeze, and only buy a bag at a time

my espresso maker is a Delonghi, had this one since 2011, had the same exact one before as well ( http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000F49XXG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 )

my burr grinder (DONT BUY A BLADE GRINDER) is a Capresso ( http://www.amazon.com/Capresso-Infinity-Conical-Grinder-Brushed/dp/B001QTVXCS ) using it on the 3rd finest setting which is perfect for espresso, and not too fine where it would clog the mesh part of my espresso maker

final product ( with a dash of milk):

You must get yourself an aeropress, it produces such a nice tasting coffee it's unreal, I always found French press leaving a bitter taste. I get some Etheopian Sidamo coffee beans from the York coffee emporium they grind it for an aero press as well so my grinder is now useless.

Lavazzaa is also pretty tasty as well.

I recently got the same espresso machine as unf. It works great and I'm still experimenting with it.

I've tried a french press, but every cup I've ever made was too bitter for me.
I also have a Bialetti Moka Pot. Can't get the coffee to taste not burnt for me.
I would still like to experiment with both of these. I think I need to get my own coffee grinder so I can control the grind size.

As for what gives me the best tasting cup of coffee, it's with the pour-over method.
I bought this cheap cone: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0014CVEH6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Filters: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FKJNNA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Kettle: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000EVPGSQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
For me this produces a bold, smooth, never bitter cup. It's also (in my opinion) fun to make everytime.

My next purchase is going to be a Chemex so I can make multiple cups for when my girlfriend is over: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0036YFTO4/ref=gno_cart_title_0?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A31OY5GCK5SO2J

As for coffee, I usually buy Gevalia or Madcap (http://madcapcoffee.com/) but I'm still trying out new beans all the time.

Reading this thread gives me amazing motivation to up my coffee game. I have been settling with the Keurig "make your own" with grounds I've bought because I'm bad at time management, but I own and have used an Aeropress in the past which is shamefully sitting idle now. I forget what method I used for that.. something about turning it upside down.

The cold brew method and pour-over appeal to me quite a bit.

Just read about Bulletproof coffee last week.. anyone ever try that gimmicky shit?

I prefer Ethiopian blends, but any dark roast is fine by me. If the beans are Ethiopian I try to go fair-trade. I'll usually take those over other options provided they're not too much more expensive. I like working with a french press for the flexibility it allows (it turns making coffee into an enjoyable trial & error kind of experience), but at school I barely have time to make coffee in the morning. If I end up using it I do so during the afternoon. They're also a huge pain to clean, so I end up opting for tea more often than not.

I had a climbing partner that would drink two full loads of espresso out of his 6 cup bialetti each morning to ensure he'd get his bowel movement out of the way before we got on any large rocks. It was like clockwork, and worked well for him, but he kept stealing my soft toilet paper rolls.

I'm pretty happy with a 3 cup. I'll have one to myself or make 2 americanos with company per go.

If you want coffee but don't have a coffee maker handy, you can put grounds into filter paper, tie it up with a piece of elastic or something, and use it as sort of a tea-bag. It'll still manage to taste better than your average Keurig cup.
