Hello everyone, been away a while. Just curious as to when the insomnia and ESEA lans are taking place? (I wanna try to watch the vods when I have free time) Also why did froyo have to replace lansky? Is there any more aussie super teams being formed or any other teams from a new country (heard asia was picking up steam competitively)? Thanks to whomever answers.

Hope everyone has been good!

No more ESEA LAN, finals are happening online over next couple weeks.
i55 is 28th - 31st August

Lansky couldn't go to i55 because of work or something

No aussie team this year, just 2 NA teams and the EU teams

i55 is Auguest 28-30, ESEA pulled lan for TF2 this season and online finals are going on now. Froyo replaced lansky because he was not able to make it to i55. There is no Australian team going to i55. AsiaFortress hass been around for a while and I think some NA and EU players have started watching matches, but I don't think they are sending a team to i55 either.

Wow that really, really sucks. No more ESEA lans. Bad sign. Hopefully another league can rise up now and take the place of ESEA. If this happened back when CEVO made its run it would've been much better timing. Really hated giving ESEA my money all those years anyways. The playoffs are so much more exciting in person. This community is tough though we'll come up with something. I'm sure it's already in the works actually. Thanks for the info guys.

With MM coming theres a good chance that the game would grow and there would be more lans along with that growth.

Hopefully the rumoured Source 2 port will improve the appeal(and other things) of the game as well.

I think a port at this point is a waste. They should be bringing out an entirely new sequel on their new engine. The game is pretty old now at this point. They definitely made a lot of money on this game so I doubt they'd just push it off to the side. I like to imagine TF3 being put out similar to the way they did CS:GO.

I hate to sound cynical, but if you had a bank account that just sat there and collected tons of money with little or no effort by you.. would you be in a rush to replace it?

Nope. I'd leave it going. Which they'll do with TF2 just as they did all of cs's earlier games. There's always a select group of people who don't move on. Hell, some people still play TFC. But look at how fast cs:go took off in terms of items. I'm imagining the next go of TF they will make it way more customizable than it already is. Basically why have one bank account when you can have two? Makes sense to me. Easier to market the new game too and attract more players. Pretty sure it's going to happen, just a matter of when.

the difference is CSS wasn't a skin factory cash cow like CS, DotA, and TF2 are. It's easy to replace an outdated game, but none of Valve's games are outdated anymore (except for Portal and L4D), since they continue to generate revenue with little to no effort on Valve's part.

I've always got the feeling, from the leaks and rumours I've followed, that it's going to be something between a simple port and a completely new game. So in other words, I doubt they'll redesign the game from the ground up, but will probably use the existing style, concept art and assets to improve on character detail, shaders, lighting, textures, particles.

I'm imagining TF2 with more customization. More wearable clothing. Way more customizable weapons. I believe TF2 is pretty out dated at this point. Valve can take what they started in TF2 and now fine tune it. They just keep releasing new updates for items to continue raking in cash, which is fine and intelligent by them. I still think though that a new updated version of TF would bring in way more money. I'd bet money that they will make it happen the question is just when?

I think all of that can pretty easily be done without making an entirely new game

I think we are probably more than 5 years out from a new Team Fortress game. Also source is such an iterative engine, TF2 engine 2015 is way different from TF2 engine on release. It's not like we are playing the same game that was released in the slightest.

I agree that the engine has been updated a number of times, but to me, it seems counter-intuitive to keep developing and updating TF2 on an older engine, while other Valve games(and subsequently their development teams) are working with a newer engine and newer code. I mean, from a developer pipeline perspective, it just seems stupid to keep a game with a very active playerbase on a much older engine, unless they plan to stop or significantly decrease updates to TF2.
