The asus might have some bad colors right out of box, but you can fix that.

yes and no.. i mean, even after 'fixing' the colors, they are still pretty lousy compared to a lot of other monitors.
thing is, you really shouldn't get this monitor if you value coloring over refresh rate and latency.

yeah, lightboost isn't too great. i expected some CRT-shit after all the hype, but was pretty disappointed.
it's nice for desktop use though, browsing, watching movies and that kind of stuff, but not so much for gaming.
nonetheless, i'd definitely recommend the asus if your aim is smooth gaming.
i went from a high-ish latency 60hz monitor to this, the difference was unbelievably big.
so so sweet.

Why not

ASUS pros
Cheaper
Has the ability to do lightboost
Doesn't require changing OSD setting to get 1ms gtgs
Phillips pros
Better out of the box colors (moot point cause picture quality after calibration is basically the same, and to most people who get TN panels it doesn't matter anyway.)

As a consideration for myself, are the new blur reduction features worth upgrading from a XL2420TE?

speaking of monitors there is a 120hz monitor being sold on craigslist within an hour away from my home (23" Asus VG236 120hz monitor) for $100, is it worth it? link

Cause a bit more than I want to pay.
Definitely not the Philips, I own that one. It is locked to 5ms response time on every refresh rate except 60hz. Asus or BenQ hands down.
