TotalBiscuit is probably the most credible and the best game reviewer on Youtube and has been battling cancer for a while now.

Damn, I'm really sad to see this happen, I'm hoping he belongs in the outliers of people actually managing to live further with this.

I remember when he did the WcRadio Blueplz stuff. Man, that takes me back.
He has been great to the wider gaming community - sponsoring teams/players, coverage of games in general, and a pretty good personality overall.

This makes me really sad. Started watching totalbiscuit back in the cataclysm beta, and have kept up with him since. Totalbiscuit is an amazing person, and has had a huge influence on me. Tb is responsible for helping the yogscast reach a wider audience, weather that is a good thing or not is debateable.

This blows, he's one of a few big YouTubers and personalities that really goes to town on developers that like to shit on their customers, he was also really good at it as well. I really hope he goes beyond the average with this. He's done a lot for video games.

Sad side story, a good friend of mine was in his last year of med-school. An attractive 26 year old girl came in to the free clinic he was at for med school stuff, and she reported having stomach upset that just wouldn't go away. A simple x-ray found cancer on both sides of her liver, which put her in the this very same boat. Nothing that you can do. So after he talked it over with her and recommended her to an oncologist, he called me up, we went out for drinks, and he dropped the medical profession as a career choice the very next day.

Can someone explain to me why, if one has liver cancer, it is not possible to get donated a new organ? I know nothing about medicine :(

You can't exactly take out your liver for very long. It's not kidneys.
There are liver transplant operations, but they're risky and are only viable depending on the type of cancer.

He had bowel cancer before, it could have spread somewhere else.

because once spots appear on the liver its possible/probable that the cancer could spread somewhere else in the body. so you could replace the liver but it could appear somewhere else later.
also, i think that they're a bit hesitant to give someone with terminal cancer a new liver (that may or may not make him better) over someone else who is otherwise healthy. not to mention that liver transplant is not a small thing, its a pretty serious operation.
