It violated the Turkish airspace for a grand total of 17 seconds... Smh Recep Erdogan
TommunistThis isn't going to lead to a shooting war.
Turkey has made its self clear it isn't going to let like this into its airspace without permission (they've shot down drones before, and last year they shot down a syrian plane) and Russia can't afford to start another war especially a NATO ally, while its bogged down in Syria and arguably eastern Ukraine , and the price of oil is so low.
thank you tommunist for bringing rationality back to my mind.

Not so much working with them as allowing them to kill Kurds to hurt the independence movement.

Arguably ex-NATO member in the blink of an eye, should Erdogan actually prove dumb enough to get into a conflict with Russia.
Which I don't think he will.

I highly highly doubt turkey would just simply be dropped as a NATO member. Given Turkey's central location it's an extremely important area that the USA / NATO risked getting involved with back in the early 1950s.
Plus Turkey has already played their Hand, basically if conflict is going to happen it's all up to how Russia wants to react, which as Tommunist pointed out before it'll likely be mostly talking and posturing.

You really think Obama is going to be dragged into a conflict with Russia by a rabid Erdogan? I really don't think he's going to have any of it.

Everyone violates each others airspace all the time. Turkey does that to Greece and vice versa on a regular basis. Why they made such a big deal out of it this time, we would never know. The details of the incident aren't clear at this point. Maybe this has something to do with russian aircraft bombers targeting turkmen minority, who are actively engaged in trading isis oil and act as a middleman between turkey and isis.

Exactly what I read on Russian news sites. We'll never even know what exactly happened cause Turkey wants the world to believe that aircraft was in their airspace and Russia wants the world to believe the opposite, all we know is that both these countries are not exactly trustworthy and both have their interests in the middle east which conflict with each other. But I hope it won't go much further.

My guess is Russia's testing the waters. Turkey previously warned Russia to stay out of their airspace after a couple of infringements, and Russia wanted to know whether Turkey/NATO was bluffing. While this isn't going to be good for Russia/Western relations, it's not going to mean T-14s rolling across Fulda Gap.

so proud of my government "testing the waters" using other peoples lives (at least one pilot confirmed to be dead), unfortunately it's not the first time they do something like this and not only in geopolitics but also in our daily life
btw how come I know the news about my country from tftv

I am sure the Leopard 2A7's will have something to say to those T-14's if they try.

Probably because you're too busy reading TFTV, rather than actively following the news.

I don't know why I thought this was going to be about a Russian jet being shot down by an actual turkey.

"According to our conclusions, our plane was shot down in international airspace, 13 nautical miles from Syria," Davutoglu said in a television interview, Agence France Presse reported. "The plane did not show any sign of hostility toward Syria and was shot down about 15 minutes after having momentarily violated Syrian airspace."
US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton spoke with Davutoglu about Friday's incident, saying that the United States would stand behind Turkey.
"The United States condemns this brazen and unacceptable act in the strongest possible terms. It is yet another reflection of the Syrian authorities' callous disregard for international norms, human life and peace and security," Clinton said, according to CNN.
The Syrian military alleged that the fighter aircraft had violated Syrian airspace. However, Turkish president Abdullah Gül and other spokesmen have not confirmed this, though Gül said that "it is routine for jet fighters to sometimes fly in and out over [national] borders".

More about the incident here. The reaction of western media media and politicians is hilarious.

Russia needs to chill out. They are turning into gangsters that think they can do whatever the hell that want to.
Why does Russia have submarines right near international fiber optic cables. It's like they are just trying to fuck with most of the world by saying "look what we can do and you cant stop us." Enough of this gangster activity they need to take a step backwards before they start a war that they will lose.
