So it's been about 4 months after the full release of Windows 10. Question is, should I just upgrade or keep my Windows 7? What are some cons to upgrading, and what are some pros? Are there any benefits to source games, or games in general?

I noticed a decent boost in fps in source games (only source games). I haven't run into any bugs either. Would recommend, easy transition and it saves all your files as well.

Don't bother upgrading. Go with a clean install.

It is good after the usual debloating and installing classic shell.

i've ran into some driver and .dll issues in the beginning. it was a pretty annoying hassle.
like missing msvcr110.dll, mscvtp100, etc...
there also are some stuttering problems you may or may not have to deal with. annoying hassle too but apparently they all went away now.

besides that, idk, it's good.

as someone who has upgraded at least like 50 machines spanning 7, 8, and 8.1...

1. if you care much about performance, don't bother upgrading, back up your data and do a clean install. Upgrading will carry over too many settings from your old OS and it just fucks with 10, makes it really laggy at times, just bloated in general.
2. if you don't care about perf, the upgrade process is really simple, and works flawlessly about 75% of the time. 20% of the time you'll need to search the internet after upgrading in order to fix some minor bugs. 5% of the time you'll get a bug where explorer.exe rapidly crashes and relaunches after you log in, it's currently unfixable and happens in safe mode too. revert to your previous OS and try again, all i can really say.

once 10 is configured it's honestly great, and it runs really well on my machine (i5 2500k, GTX 970, 16GB RAM, SSD). multimonitor support is improved over 8.1 in some respects but worse than even 8 in others, it's kind of weird but definitely fixable. search is vastly improved, i used to use launchy but no more. you might as well give it a shot while you still can.

Unless anything has changed you still can't play games in borderless in 8 or 10 without it being really choppy. So, if you like playing in borderless, stick with 7.

I did an upgrade months ago with the intention of doing a clean install soon, but I haven't found time to back up all my important finals, do a clean install, and reinstall all my programs yet though.

I have a lot of weird annoying issues that I'm pretty sure would go away with a clean install, but these issues make me wish I hadn't done the upgrade and just waited to do a clean install

I recently (Wednesday) upgraded from 8.1. The upgrade process went smooth and fast enough and kept all my files and programs. The one issue that happened was my pc could not connect or use my ethernet connection, but could still use the wireless. I spent a few hours trying to fix it with no luck. Decided to switch back to 8.1 until I could do a clean install. My connection problem was still there. Woke up and booted my pc this morning and my wired connection was fine. Still don't know what happened.
That's my only experience with 10 so far.

The only issues I've had with Windows 10:

- While on a demo of W10 I was not allowed to delete or rename any files whatsoever on my computer because it was interpreted as an invalid MS-DOS function
- My taskbar for a short time would completely lag then slowly remove icons from the tray but only the icons. I could still click the programs but I didn't know what program I was opening, this appeared to be solved by restarting Windows Explorer via task manager

Those were the only issues I had and the only really debilitating one only occurred on the demo I had, didn't happen on the full version I installed later.

I encountered a problem using both of my monitors, The nvidia was still in beta so it would glitch out, I haven't checked if they patched it or not.... I am still using 8.1 afraid to retry, I'm just gonna wait it out, unless people can confirm the Nvidia software is now better with handling both monitors

I just went with Win10 last week. So far so good. I had some microphone issues, but I got them sorted out. I noticed smoother game play and a little more fps. The new Win10 is really cool, it is worth upgrading to.

I forgot to tell you guys, but I did upgrade (not a clean install) a few days ago, but I went back to Windows 7 a few hours later. The OS was good looking, little hard to get myself around but I still got the hang of it. I also noticed a lot more smoothness.

What made me switch back was the ping. I don't know why, but my ping was spiking a lot and I couldn't get it down. When I switched back, everything went back to normal, low ping.
