First you have to decide if you want open headphones or closed headphones. If you want any bass thump at all, then stay away from the open headphones. You will have to spend a lot of money to get a pair of open headphones that have good bass thump. Closed headphones will give you the bass thump at the expense of high and mid clarity, but not much. Open headphones are better for highs and mids, closed are better for bass and mids, in general, and basically....
However, a lot of people seem to like the open headphone design because of the larger sound stage, and because a lot of pros like them, but then a lot of people get buyer's remorse and complain about the lack of bass, and then just accept it and learn to get use to the fact that they will experience no real bass thump.
Pick something that is in align with your needs and what kind of sound you like. Don't go with something because you see others using them, figure out what you want, or you may just find yourself disappointed, because all headphones have a different, unique "sound."
As for "DAC" or "Amps" If you have a sound card, you will be fine, they have a DAC included, if you have on-board sound, you should still be fine, as long as you don't pick a headphone pair that has a really high resistance (impedance) like 600ohms. They take a lot of power to run, and will require an amp to sound right, and you wont notice a significant difference between high and low impedence. Lower impedance headphones are, these days, just about as good as the really high impedance headphones, from a technology standpoint.
