Hey. I've been following Street Fighter for a while and I was wondering if anyone else follows Street Fighter. I'm hoping to make this a general thread for the entirety of CPT open for discussion about the game, it's players, and tournaments (Capcom Pro Tour).
What is CPT?
Capcom Pro Tour is a circuit of Street Fighter V tournaments that lead up to Capcom Cup. Players from around the world enter various tournaments all to get a spot in top 32 for Capcom Cup.
How is the tour played out?
Players from across the globe will battle through a yearlong tournament circuit in order to claim one of the 32 qualification spots for the year end Capcom Cup. Players can qualify through any of the methods listed below:
11 qualify via Global Premier Events
1 is invited from EVO 2016
4 qualify via Regional Finals, 1 player from each event
8 qualify via regional point leaderboards, top 2 from each region
8 qualify via the global point leaderboards.
There are 2 types of events in this tour: Premier and Ranking.
Winners of Premier get a guaranteed spot while winners of Ranking tournaments get a guaranteed spot at Regional Finals and the winners of Regional finals also get a guaranteed spot at CCC.
How do I follow the tour?
These days many of the tournaments get casted live on twitch.tv; usually on twitch.tv/capcomfighters
If a tournament pops up on another channel I'll put it in the reminder post I typically make.
You can also watch the points leaderboard and read up on the tournament here.
Why should I care?
No particular reason. If you are at all interested in watching top level SFV though now is the time to start following as today Final Round 19 is airing as of this post, signaling the start of CPT.

Lots of heavy hitters today...
Nuckledu, Kazunoko, Tokido, FChamp, Jwong, Ricki Ortiz, Infiltration, PR Balrog, Brolylegs, Momochi, Haitani, Reiketsu, Fuudo, Dakou, Alex Valle, Poongko, Xiao Hai, Mago, Bonchan (who as previously mentioned got upset in pools), Velociraptor, Filipinoman, Xian, Dark Jiewa, Alucard, and K Brad are the big names in the tournament.
Even with all these big names it is a new game after all. Would be nice to see some new blood upset the established players once in a while. Of course, these players are well known for their consistency (except the Chinese: Jiewa, Xiao Hai, Dakou. idk they just aren't consistent but they are still super good).
Also some big names from other games: Kane Blue River and SonicFox.
Final Round is looking like a pretty good tournament with lots of players with one thing to prove: They can make it in this game too.

What is the perception of SFV in the pro scene? Is it seen as better than SF4 or too soon to tell?

Also on a side note: NorCal regionals are literally next week which is another premier event (and I think Daigo is going to that one?) so if you are nearby consider dropping by. The atmosphere is great for these events. If not, tune in next week on (likely) the same channel twitch.tv/capcomfighters

AdmirableWhat is the perception of SFV in the pro scene? Is it seen as better than SF4 or too soon to tell?
People are receiving it well. It had a lot of criticism because it was seen as too boring, but people are coming round. In my opinion I prefer SF4 (Capcom Cup finals were fantastic for hype) but I'm enjoying V too. Because it's a game more focused on fundamentals you're less likely to see someone go nuts so it's up to what you find interesting in fighting games to determine which you prefer
The video of Tokido running through USA is here, some really hype play: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=28MCXvJpxJQ

Evo dropped USF4 in favor of SFV and CPT did the same. So yeah people pretty much have moved on to it. Some players won't like it but generally everybody has moved to SFV.
SFV however is quite different than USF4. USF4 was fairly execution based. Many 1-frame links and FADC's made the game fairly mechanical. SFV however toned it down by making more target combos (combos that are really easy to link) as well as making some gestures easier (such as Chun Li's kicks where in SF4 you had to spam kick buttons but in SFV it's just a Hadoken but with kicks instead of punches).
Overall, yes, SFV is generally considered to be the new game. However those that really liked the mechanical aspect of SF4 will probably still play the game. I know Tokido is just playing for a year and going back to USF4 and Xian is still playing USF4. (Xian and Tokido got 1st and 2nd place in Evo 2013 btw). Also some players that didn't pick up SF4 are picking up SFV now (aka Nuki, Evo 2007 and 2005 3rd Strike winner).

On a side note, anybody going to Evo this year? I'm tagging along with my Mom who is going to be on a business trip and I'll be there all weekend while also watching finals so if we got any homies that want to meet up and not look like lonely gamers I'm down.

I'd put money on a Rashid upsetting a top player with relentless rushdown. You can tell why Fuerte players were looking at him.

What's everyone's top 8 predictions for Final Round?
Mine is: Infiltration, Jwong, Fuudo, Kazunoko, Mago, 801 Strider, PR Balrog, and I'm gonna go with KBrad for my 8th to spice it up.
I don't think SnakeEyez is going to do that well unless he fights people that don't know how to fight Gief... He might do well against Japanese players if they don't study the match-up though. If that's the case I'd put him in there instead of probably Mago or Fuudo.

I think Infil with face Tokido in gf, other than that it's pretty open. Look for Champ to do well

The pool brackets are up: https://smash.gg/tournament/final-round-19/brackets/11882/14394
Things to note so far:
Dark Jiewa lost in pools.
AfroCole lost in pools.
Infiltration, Fuudo, and Poongko look like they have free pools.
A name I missed is EG.ChocoBlanka. I don't know too much about her but I know she got bodied by Ricki Ortiz at the E3 exhibition tournament.

Top 128 is happening now on twitch.tv/capcomfighters
Bracket: https://smash.gg/tournament/final-round-19/brackets/11882/19110
Fchamp, Mago, Fuudo, Velociraptor, Chris T, alucarD, and Bonchan all in the same bracket = craziness.
Snake Eyez, Poongko, PR Balrog, Dakou are also all in the same bracket.
Things to note:
Fuudo eliminates Bonchan.
Somehow 3 brackets do not have any asian players.
Momochi eliminates Alex Valle.
SonicFox going really deep into the tournament (MKX champion + other games).
Goichi/Go1, and Nando making a name for themselves breaking into top 16. (Nando knocked out Goichi recently)
Infiltration, Mago, Nando, and brentiscool in top 8 winner's side.
SonicFox, Go1/Goichi, Tokido and Haitani in top 8 loser's side.

Loser's finals is happening now at twitch.tv/capcomfighters
The winner between Haitani and Tokido will face Infiltration in the Grand Finals.
Which of the two of the five gods will make it into grand finals?
I'm predicting Tokido! :D
EDIT: WHOOPS LOL actually the winner of Haitani and Tokido is getting a spot in loser's finals...
So loser's finals is Mago vs. Tokido. Both Madcatz sponsors and really familiar with each other as players and friends. It's gonna be a hype match.

Wow Tokido just destroyed Mago... Interesting considered Mago was cruising through winner's bracket while Tokido was sent to loser's. Speaking of being sent to loser's we now have the run back between Tokido and Infiltration when Infiltration put Tokido into lower bracket. Grand finals hype!

Just so you guys know NCR is kicking off tomorrow, Friday March 25. SFV starts on Saturday but there's still some fighting game action going on tomorrow so you can check that out in the schedule linked below.
This is a Premier Event which means lots of international attention. Infiltration, currently considered the best SFV player so far winning the first Premier Final Round, is still in the US I believe so he's likely to make another appearance and perhaps take another win.
Will we see another "Year of Infiltration" for SF5? Tune in at twitch.tv/capcomfighters on Saturday and Sunday to find out!
The schedule for the entirety of NCR can be found here
Brackets will be posted by me or whoever is awake whenever they pop up (probably tomorrow idk?)

Justin Wong gets knocked down by Bonchan.
Sudden emergence of Marn x Mago bromance.
AHHHH MARN JUST BEAT MAGO LMAO
Marn is just upsetting left right and center today. I think if he even got that first stun on Infiltration he might have gotten at least one game. But Nash/Charlie imo wins the match up vs. Mika pretty well...
