Hello guys,
So I was up last night until midnight with a group of lads getting our i58 tickets booked (if you do it now they are %15 off at the moment) and Hotels, Then someone mentioned they need to get a Kingston lock.
Now I have a few problems with this:
A. I do not have a Kingston lock port on my case, So are there any other ideas to bolt my computer to the table?
B. My side panels are hold together with thumb screws this would not stop thieves from stealing my fancy GPU or ram sticks, Any idea how I can lock my computers side panels?
C. What do the Insomnia staff do to stop people walking out with other peoples computers?
(Note: I would rather not go drilling into my case so I can install 2 big padlocks)
I'm not a massive security nut but I would rather make my first LAN event worry free and be confident no one has walked out Insomnia 58 with my computer or part of.
Any ideas on how to keep my computer safe and secure will be an amazing help for me.
I understand there is always some risk to taking your own computer to LAN but I would like to minimize that risk in anyway possible so I can enjoy the event with other TF2 Gamers and friends.
Thanks Ducky!

The biggest thing about security for anything is, if someone really wants it they'll get it. It's all about making it difficult for someone to do it. Zip tying the holes where the thumbscrews go will make it pretty hard for someone to open it without making a scene.
+ I saw this thing on the kensington website that looks like it could be what you're looking for - http://www.kensington.com/us/us/v/7330/1892/desktop-pc-peripheral-locking-kits

i58 staff check peoples bags when they go in or out of the room. You have to have a sticker on your case and monitor that matches the one on your pass. It's pretty hard to walk out of a room that constantly has people on the door with a full PC case.

There's also a thing where they require a phone number, mobile, to be on the sticker now I think. So either they can text and you show them it's your number, or they text you saying someone is taking it and you confirm if they're meant to or not.

Thank you ProSkeez I'm probably going to buy one of the Kensington loops and see if that answered part of my question.
The Zip Ties is a good idea I had but I don't have a loop/hole in my case and side-panel to feed it in a tie it. I suppose I could try and drill a small hole in my case to do this but I don't have much clearance with the width of the metal.

I went last year with possibly the heaviest computer and screen ever made, that seemed to deter everyone.

Insomnia event security is pretty tight, honestly. They check all bags, plastic, backpacks, whatever. You could get a mouse or something stolen, sure, and that would suck, but your computer? Not likely. Not ruling it out completely, but you're 99.9% safe leaving your PC.
Hell, one time I didn't lock my computer and some dude I didn't know who didn't play tf2 locked it for me instead of trying to steal my virtual pixel hats.
iSeries is a good place to be.

Not exactly saying this is 100% correct but I have been able to leave the area every time I go without a sticker on a PC or laptop.
It isn't 100% safe by any means at all but it doesn't mean that people go around nicking shit, to get in to the BYOC areas you have to have a weekend pass I think now, so you can only steal a PC or laptop if you paid for a full weekend ticket.
Just take anything that you can take back with you as well. But I've not had anything nicked but I have had a friend that has had a mouse and headset stolen.

Yeah i'm planning to unplug my mouse, headset and keyboard and take them with me when I live for the night.
It's just that feeling you have in the back of your head, "You know its unlikely that something would happen but what if it did"

Maybe people respect the production area more but we've left some pretty expensive stuff just lying around (without stickers at i55) and had no problems.

They're pretty particular about people not sleeping in the LAN halls for insurance and liability reasons but I know of people who've done it.

You can be in the LAN area at any time but you can't sleep there. People do find ways to sleep under tables etc though. Might not be true for i58 though, I've not been to an i-series at the NEC yet.

At i52 I left my laptop unlocked while I was getting food, got back an hour later to find a guy I've never seen before in my life sitting at my PC with my headphones on. Went to confront him, turns out he was insulting b0nes over mumble on my behalf. Good lad
