recently i started looking through my demos, but a lot of them are causing my game to crash when i enter the command to play the demo. i am getting the "bad inline model number #" engine error. i searched tftv and google and i only found this: http://www.teamfortress.tv/19159/demo-crashing-tf2
the demos im trying to play arent outdated (2-3 weeks old), and im just trying to play demos on normal 6s maps, like snakewater, gully, process
for some reason i can play HL demos on gully, but for demos that i recorded less than a week later in 6s, its not working. ???

Any possible way you are mixing up demo locations? When I did some fiddling with my tf folder, I made demos go to their own separate folder instead of just staying in the tf folder, and then those demos just in the tf folder would not work until they got moved into their own demos folder.

i dont think so. i havent moved my demos out of my tf folder ever, really. i know at least one or two of these demos that keep crashing on me worked less than a week ago. i dont know why anything would be different now

not having this issue with my own demos but I am having this issue with some demos sent to me for my youtube channel.
things I've tried
all mat_queue_mode settings
-default in launch options
skipping past the ticks the demos crash at
using lawena
I don't have this issue with my demos or STV demos just certain other people's recorded ones

I had this problem aswell with old demos, new are fine.
The demos that are affected by this problem were most likely recorded before the mm beta update that corrupted them.

If someone is backuping the .vpk's and stuff like that we could ask them to upload it somewhere and then use them, its probably just the maps becouse they updated them when mm got out.
So, someone, please, upload old versions of valve mm maps ( process, badlands, granary, foundry, gullywash, snakewater, lakeside)
As for me, I need these maps:
cp_process_final from: 11.3.2016 + 17.3.2016
cp_snakewater_final1 from: 17.3.2016

Multicore rendering (mat_queue_mode 2) causes frequent crashes, but not exclusively.
mat_queue_mode 1 works for me. 0 might work as well.
I can play demos as old as 2013 with this setting alone. I'm on -dxlevel 81 and comanglia's config.
Some demos are just fucked, and that depends on who's uploading it, and their settings/scripts at the time the demo was made, because: From what I've deduced while watching demos, they have preloaded cvars that are instantaneously loaded (for example, some demos change mat_queue_mode even after setting it to 1 in console before loading), and after they're injected in the current engine there's not much you can do afterwards. I really really doubt this is the case for the majority of demos. Maybe someone can make a "demo cleanser," or at least dig through a demo file to see how cvars are changed.

well, I can't play demo's only from 11.3 to 17.3, others are ok, just these and i know i was editing them before (12.3.2016)) so they are not broken.

to anyone having this problem, try going to steam>tf2>properties>betas and change it to "prerelease". either this trick fixed it for me or it were valve who fixed it in which case you don't even need to do this
EDIT: some demos still crash

I don't see a beta option on my screen now, June 10th.
