so i got an evga nvidia gtx 650 ti. my game keeps freezing every few seconds for a second or two and i get the sound loop. sometimes my screen goes black for about 5 seconds then i get a notification saying my driver stopped responding and has recovered.

i've tried reinstalling the drivers.
i use the lowest settings possible in tf2 and in the driver settings.
google doesn't seem to be helping me.

help pls! ask me anything.

Maybe your card is bad and you should RMA it?

Just TF2 messing up?

If yes, then backup your configs and maps and try removing your tf folder, then load TF2 with launch option -autoconfig that sets everything back to default for your pre-detected video card.

After you load the game once and setup your proper video settings (2xAA, trillinear, etc). then remove that launch option and reload the game. You may have to re-do your video settings, I don't recall.

If you're using one of the newer releases of nvidia drivers, I've had graphic issues in TF2 with them. I wouldn't recommend them, but I'm on a Fermi GPU (400 series). I'm on 301.42 if you want to give it a try. Follow the below guide to install any drivers from here on out.

it really sounds like it's your card itself if it's happening on two different games (tf2/sc2)

TF2 has had problems with nvidia stuff for ages; this is nothing new. The card may be bad, but lots of people have this (or very similar) issues with nvidia cards. Many of them solve the issue by trying different driver versions until they find one that works for them.

It definitely sounds like an RMA should be your next action.

Good luck.
