Hello,
I'm writing this thread, because I have some trouble playing competitive TF2, TF2 in general and CS:GO in general. Since 8 months I have been using Chris' High Fps Config (of course modified by me to fit my own PC settings and playstyle). But suddenly (around 14 April 2016) I started getting hige lag spikes. The first 5-10 minutes everything is fine, but after that every 6-10 seconds I experience a huge frp drop (from 60-80 to 10-23) and a hige ping increase (from 60-80 to 120-sometimes 260). I checked and I haven't done anything different to the game and its settings, Valve doesn't have any patch notes from that date. The worst thing is that other people see me moving perfectly fine, but on my screen everything lags for around 2-5 seconds every time I experience it. I even tried the m0rehighfps config, which gets rid of most to all particles and reduces the grafics quallity (with which I have no problem). The m0rehighfps config had a graph, which measures everything in the game. Every time I experienced a lag spike, the graph showed that there were a lot of particles. I thought that it was only on TF2 and tried playing CS:GO, but the same thing was happening. Only without the first 5-10 minutes of no lag. I have no idea what is going on. I'd be really grateful, if someone explained me what is causing this and how I can fix it.

What's your internet like? Are you on a crowded cabinet? More importantly, are you on wifi?
Did you install any drivers or updates on that date? Did you check the temperature of your cpu and gpu?
SmytherWhat's your internet like? Are you on a crowded cabinet? More importantly, are you on wifi?
I'm on cable internet. I made a speed test and a package loss test, but everything was normal. I spoke to a friend of mine, who is studying software engineering and he said that it could be that the RAM of my graphics card isn't enough and it's transfering the work to the hard drive, but because the hard drive is slower, lag appears.

I didn't install drivers on that day. It was just a normal day of start the computer, watch some youtube vids and play TF2. I though that it may be caused by old drivers, that's why I updated the drivers a few days after this lag started appearing, but it didn't work. Although I haven't checked the temperature of the cpu and the gpu. I'll try doing that.

The temperature of my gpu core is 60 degrees celsius (my graphics card doesn't have a fan) and my cpu's minimal an maximal temperatures are 51 and 59 degrees celsius. The TCase max temperature is 63 degrees celsius.

Browser based network test tools like pingtest.net can miss problems with your connection so aren't great for your purpose unless it's really really bad. A better tool is something like mtr (my trace route, it's a linux thing but it's so simple there's almost certainly a windows port). But you said "cable internet" which doesn't answer my question really, does your computer connect to your router/modem by wifi, or by an ethernet cable/powerline/some other type of wire?

It is connected via ethernet cable.
