what's the issue with repeating that
in the current system the game could easily go past 10 minutes in a likely more boring fashion
I feel a Golden Cap should be decided in 2 possible ways.
1-- Capture Last (obviously)
2-- Capture the opposing teams 2nd point and hold it until time runs out.
(holding middle point as time expires should not count for anything)
I am not a fan of holding a neutral Mid-Point and getting credit for winning a match. Many times mid-fights can be won or lost from random things happening and I wouldn't like a match determined by one team getting lucky spam, body block, etc, etc because of congested mid-fights. In my opinion, to be the winning team you need to take something from the opposing team and earn the win. If you can Capture Last or hold the enemy 2nd point as they try and attack you, then you have every right to win the match.
I believe this would also lead to more exciting pushes from last when teams get desperate as well as new off-classing strats to dislodge a team that decides to "park the bus" and defend a 2nd point with things like Heavy/Engineer.
There would also be more aggressive pushes from Mid to 2nd for the team that wins the mid-fight. It would also lead to more spirited defenses of 2nd point from defending teams instead of always bailing to last and sacrificing a player to get a medic kill.

If you're defending last you already have enough issues in OT, I don't think adding the winning team parking the bus on second really helps

I agree, but you need to have some penalty for losing the Mid-Fight and being stuck on your 2nd or on your last fits that bill in my opinion. Besides, if you can't push a team off your own 2nd point, why should you have any claim on winning the match?
I agree, etf2l should try something different although it didn't harass as much so far.
I think that playing until 1 fully round can not show which team deserved having it's win and a new meta might be nice.

i disagree completely:
if the team just parks the bus and doesn't do sacks its kinda hard to push out of last on even ubers/numbers
on top of that on a lot of maps like badlands and metalworks, it's so aids to push out of last that you often need more than just a single pick and it's hard to push out even with 100% uber advantage
the team parking the bus could also just build a sentry/tele and wait the time out very easily

I see what you are saying and even agree with you about the difficulty but in the end everything you said was just an excuse as to why its "hard" to push out from last. Parking the buss happens in just about every high level game at some point of another so I really don't see the difference.
Guess what, the other team put you on your own last so your team is losing. Unless you can break the other team like they broke you to get such an advantage and turn the tables.
I haven't kept up with the comp formats in a long time. Do you guys still do multiple maps per match? Do you do golden cap on the nonterminal maps of the match?
In ETF2L it's still 1 match against a new opponent each week (for the main season). 1 match consists of 2 maps, and teams have 30 minutes on each to get as many rounds as possible. A 5 windifference mercy rule (3 for koth) can cut a map short. If teams have equal rounds on the scoreboard after 30 minutes, before moving to the 2nd map/concluding the match, a config is loaded, and teams rup again for a golden cap. It's 3 points for winning a map without a golden cap, 0 for losing. 2 points for winning with a golden cap and 1 point for losing.

That's not an improvement, any variation on arena mode is trash

Yeah I know, the point being OP is complaining about golden cap being too quick, coin-flippy and unfair, when actually the only problem that could exist with it is that golden cap has no round time so can take way too long.

Actually we switched to a system that doesn't have a timelimit for GC rounds because evidence showed us (ETF2L) that rounds shorter than our (then current) system that did have a time limit.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not arguing for any change, least of all making golden caps (or whatever replacement, should one happen) last longer.
