the PSU of my good computer broke so now Im stuck on a mac, launch option don't work so I can't run dx level 81. anybody know how to fix this
os x don't use directx since it's a windows only technology. you're stuck using opengl which looks like dx9+ enjoy

U can still probably use a bunch of other options to make it look less dx9-y. I was a dx8 diehard until I realized that dx9 doesn't have to look all shiny and stretchy and horrible.

Firethere is no directx at all on max, directx is a microsoft product and only available on windows.
there have been threads on how to make your dx9 look more like dx8 tho (like this one) so if its only about the visuals there you go. you wont get as big performance improvements as you get by switching to dx8 on a pc tho.
everyone who says theyre running dx8 on a mac just simply has no idea about directx and i dont know how they check if it worked, not sure how the mat_dxlevel cvar behaves on a mac.
on mac mat_dxlevel works. Copy and pasted from the console: "mat_dxlevel" = "90" ( def. "92" ) min. 90.000000 max. 92.000000
