1. you're not an elitist for believing your game should be skill-based
2. those mechanics don't have to be hidden if there was a proper fucking tutorial or if competitive wasn't obscure as fuck
3. he probably is better and smarter when it comes to tf2 than most of the playerbase but regardless of that there's nothing that implies that he is better than anyone else, he just wants the game to have a high skill ceiling. i want the game not to be pandered towards bad players, and i could probably be beaten by every player on this thread
he's saying that anyone who doesn't like the mechanics he likes is an idiot
alot of people in this thread don't like pyro but to remove pyro from the game would be to dumb it down becuase it would remove mechanics so by his logic people who want to remove pyro are appealing to idiots
and this pro mod would remove alot of mechanics from the game would it not dum down the game?

HEY SHUT UP ELITIST
The gameplay of 6es is fine apart some minor balance changes, if anything a reworked whitelist to get rid of some of the weapons sounds good. Ive always liked the idea of a rollback client but when you think about it who would realistically support the decision since it would bring back security issues that have been patched out.
SnowdreamHere are some examples of things that could change:- Weapon balancing via stats rather than whitelisting
- Class balance, and consequently class limits
- Optimisation, removal of cosmetics
The problem is that its going to split the community even further, and not just the pub vs comp community but the existing players. Call me crazy but I think 6es is fine as it is, and the things that are in the game - while they could be reworked like this - should be dealt with on a ban/allow case. I like that you can transition from getting good in pubs to beginner level competitive and for those who already play both comp and casual its going to be a pain dealing with 2 different muscle memories for different gamemodes. Perhaps not muscle memory but say if damage or timing stats were modified for weapons.
If the promod client or plugin is solely focused on competitive exclusively, then how do you deal with globalization of said promod and how do you deal with people who play both and will have to play with awkward changes every time. Responsibility, influence and pros vs peoples opinions to mention a few.
As garbage as it sounds with the current dev team, realistically the only idea would be to get tf2 balanced from the core, and not with modded clients or plugins. Im open to anything if ideas are being thrown or projects being worked on but the above concerns are there.
I think 6es is fine but the current whitelist is spaghetti deluxe. Gimmicks and crutches dont belong in competitive, like this for example:
Nub_Danishyou argue that stupid gimmicks need to be removed, but then complain when stuff is dumbed down they're the same thing
rocket jumping could be considered a stupid gimmick, ctapping, bunny hopping its literally just based on your opinion
If we are going to base it on "your opinion" there are many more people who would not play vs pyro than a gunboats soldier. Have you ever played vs an engineer who sits in spawn, repairing his sentry with rescue ranger while a pyro is deflecting incoming spam and at the same time the enemy demoman is spamming the choke with loose cannon? Thats a gimmick for you. If you get killed or stalled by a bombing soldier he earned it, if you get killed or stalled by the composition above youre being gimmick-ed, same with pyro m2 reflect > flare 1shot combos, same with being zoned by a minisentry as a scout, for some examples. I prefer the term crutch but gimmick works too.
I play a fair amount of alternative game modes and the fact that the game is always the same on 6es, offline, pubs, dm, mge, inhouses makes it feel globalized and whatever you do there will work in 6es as well as it will work anywhere else.

Remember when CEVO basically killed the game by trying to get people to play in a different league? Alright nice now let's just make it a different game, what could go wrong??
Sure make a promod but get ready to only play the game in a pugchamp style with huge skill gaps
If you are gonna kill the game though, rebuild the game entirety so we can get a new network code, flat textures, mono color player models. No cosmetics so we can get actual good frames. After you've built the whole thing the game will be dead anyway and we can play it as a fun pug thing

Overwatch itself isn't fast-paced, but the gamemodes that Overwatch has are. KOTH is obvious - I think Pro Viaduct and Coalplant are the most exciting maps to both watch and play that this game has ever had, just because of how well the gametype encourages pushing and makes it difficult to hold. A/D isn't fast-paced in the traditional sense, but there is always so much tension and strategy because a single mistake can mean disaster and one team is constantly attempting to put on pressure. I love 5CP, but of the 3 gamemodes, there is the most downtime.
Also, turtle classes in the present state of 6s are fine. You can make an argument that the Eviction Notice should be banned, but honestly it doesn't matter. Turtle classes are good for the metagame because they are only useful in one instance - having a chance to hold last vs full uber disadvantage, after wiping on mid. Even with the Gunslinger and Eviction Notice and Tomislav and Powerjack, they are still complete trash at transition fights, which means they aren't run out of lasts. Pushing lasts isn't why tf2 is slow, and teams breezing through last pushes with full advantage isn't going to fix anything.
As to what a promod could potentially do to make the game faster / better...well, I wrote down a bunch of ideas, but I probably won't post them unless there's interest, which I doubt there will be. The one thing I will say is PYYYOUR once made a post here (can't find it) that said that Uber charging faster and lasting less long would lead to a faster game. I think it's very interesting - there's a lot dead time in TF2 while teams build Uber. Making it charge faster cuts down on the dead time. Making the duration shorter makes it less insurmountable, so it isn't so inconceivable to push into an Uber without one, or start a slow push knowing you'll get it on the way.
I love 5CP, but of the 3 gamemodes, there is the most downtime.

knuck flat textures, mono color player models. No cosmetics so we can get actual good frames. After you've built the whole thing the game will be dead anyway and we can play it as a fun pug thing
this was what I had in mind in the first place (see: cod4 promod)
