i have this weird choppiness to the game that feels like i'm at low fps but i'm at around 300.
i use comanglia fps cfg for good computers. i've kept in the 3d hud model and shadows from the cfg.
i use WietHud as a custom hud if that's relevant.
Intel Core i7-6700K, 4.00 GHz, 16.0 GB RAM, NVIDIA GTX 960
I use a BenQ XL2411Z 144hz monitor but it sometimes doesnt feel 144 in tf2.

Make sure your monitor is set in Windows to 144hz. You'd be surprised how many people don't notice this (looking at you, kev).

Make sure you have "-refresh 144" in your launch options and if you use windowed or borderless windowed mode that your desktop is also set to 144Hz.
Also among other things go to your Nvidia Control panel settings "Manage 3D settings" go to "Program settings" and either under TF2 or Global (if you want this to affect every game) set "maximum pre-rendered frames" to 1. Seriously every competitive player should do this for the game they play, if they have an nvidia card. AMD users are typically defaulted to 1 for FPS games and 2 for almost everything else so it's not as big of an issue.

Not everyone has nvidia cards, it doesn't actually improve FPS for the majority of users, and tbh I didn't know about it when I first made the thread as I've only ever had AMD/ATI cards up until last year.

does the 144hz command also work for 60hz?

sibbyowlcometdoes the 144hz command also work for 60hz?
Don't use -refresh 144 if the max your monitor can handle is 60Hz.
If you mean -refresh 60 yes that works.

This may be a stup question but I run TF2 at 120hz because of the Blur Reduction tool, should I put -refresh 120 into my launch options? I can't find anything about the command on google.

Yeah use whatever you want the monitor to refresh at. The command is kinda irrel. though. TF2 will launch at the refresh rate windows is set at. Its main use is to launch the game at a different refresh rate to what you have windows set at.

You can get custom resolution utility, then -freq launch actually is working fine
