My game has recently started freezing quite frequently, making a usb removal sound and just stuttering the game for a few seconds, without the ability to turn in game.
On occasion my mouse just won't respond until I unplug it, but this only happens rarely. Mouse response usually just comes back after a few seconds.
I have a feeling it's something to do with my mouse disconnecting, but it only happens when I'm playing tf2. Is anyone else getting this problem, and are there any known fixes if it is a problem for multiple people?

This might sound odd but do you have your phone connected to your pc?
I noticed random unplugging when i had mine connected and got the same stutters.
Also have you tried a different mouse yet?

this worked for me
window7 btw
- press windows button/ click the bottom left button
- type run and enter
- ctrl+v this ' devmgmt.msc. ' and click enter
- go to the universal serial bus controllers
- right click on usb root hub
- "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" is checked by default. Uncheck this box, and click "OK."
that was all i did and my mouse started working. try googling if this doesn't work out
you might have more than root hub like i did so i just did it for all of them

In case none of the above help: When I had this problem(exactly as you're describing it) my mouse cord was broken and it disconnected and reconnected my mouse rapidly if I bent the cord too much by flicking too far or too rapidly. After a few weeks of this I started to BSOD with a message that my USB drivers had crashed. I put a new cord on my mouse and I haven't had the problem since.

Now that you say that I think this is what happens for me, probably the mouse cord then.
