I recently got around to getting Windows on my Macbook, and prior to this I would use the Apple Earbuds (which had a mic on the cord) for speaking. The mic worked fine, but now that i've switched over to Windows I can hear w/ the earbuds just fine but doesn't recognize my mic, is it an audio jack problem or something of that variety?

Your audio driver probably only supports one input/output at a time. You'll most likely have to get a mic or audio splitter cable. I had a thread somewhat like this just a while back where I asked for software that could split the sound but all I got were plat heavies telling me to buy a mic. So you should probably do that.
