Are you using Windows 10 by chance? Try disabling the game bar thing. When that auto-enabled for me with the creators update, all third party overlays stopped working. Even the steam overlay would glitch every so often.

I can't remember the last time the overlay worked for me in any game. I've given up on trying to get it to work. It's a real shame too. I liked having it.

The solution I use now is to just have 2 monitors and leave the mumble window open on the second one.
