Hey guys!
I'm really looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow night in the newbie mix mumble (chi4.tragicservers.com 64737)! We will be having a basic community-building meeting to brainstorm changes and improvements to make for the next generation of mixes. These improvements will be focused much more on getting more players and coaches involved, rather than operational matters like “how we draft”, “should we still use mumble”, etc. That said, we can talk about those things afterwards.
I will be posting this meeting on my YouTube channel for people that miss it. I only say this so that everyone knows ahead of time that it is expected of people to behave themselves throughout the meeting. Uncivilized discourse and personal attacks will lead to a mute for the rest of the meeting, given out by admin discretion.
Current agenda (prone to updates):
- Introduction
- Format of meeting
- New organizational structure explanation
- Discussion of new structure
- Open recommendations for next generation recruitment
- Open questions about next generation recruitment
- Open recommendations for all other topics
- Open questions about all other topics
- Closing
This meeting is not for us to announce things to you, like many community “meetings” have been in the past. We sincerely want to make newbie mixes as great as we can, and we know we can’t do that by delegating mixes in a purely top-down fashion. PLEASE come prepared to provide feedback, ask constructive questions, and generally help out. We'd really appreciate it. The meeting is expected to start promptly at 9:30PM ET.
Everyone is welcome, and if you want to be an admin in the next iteration of mixes, I would HIGHLY recommend that you either come to this or alert us ahead of time that you won't be able to make it.
Feel free to discuss this announcement here on tftv or in our new newbie mix discord! https://discord.gg/u9VmVxk

KevinIsPwn“should we still use mumble”
I personally feel conflicted about this.
Mumble has some great features such as overlay which is quite helpful when getting to know a new team.
While Discord has way fewer steps to actually join a server and talk to people (once you have an account that is).
also pretty sure mumble delay is still -slightly- faster than discord but that doesn't matter for newbie mixes
-edit-
Discord also doesn't(didn't?) support push to talk unless you have the desktop app.

Some people also have huge performance issues with discord.

So glad these are back.
Shout out to pie_hero for being the first ever coach of one of my games and made me want to play more.

mumble is so lightweight and low latency it's a no brainer to use for anything competitive

I thought kevin was done with tf2, and yet he's still here helping to try and keep the scene alive. Thanks a ton kevin!

Also I recommend trying out the mumble snapshot, it lets you set user volume like in discord.
http://wiki.mumble.info/wiki/Main_Page just run the executable and open mumble.

Yes, I agree 100% we should still use mumble, as do most people. That's why it was an example of things-we-won't-talk-about-until-later. Sorry for any confusion!

Sorry for the pretty aggressive bump. I just want everyone to remember that this is tonight! Please come if you can!!

This is definitely a thread worthy of aggressively bumping. Newbie mixes have probably been the number 1 thing bringing in new players for some time now.

I suggest the idea of a newbie mix pug group on saturdays for newbies to test their skills without the watchful eye of coaches and to get used to the idea of inhousing. This way newbies have more time in game to practice in a low pressure environment. Games could start quicker as there is no waiting for coaches.
I loved newbie mixes when I first started and I wouldn't be here without them
