One year in college my roommate left an empty soda bottle out which attracted hundreds of them, marching in a straight line.

If that happens, the quickest way to clean them up is to cut a line of masking tape, and bring it down on them. When you reach the source at the wall, put a bit of salt down, which neutralizes the pheromone trail.

Hey guys I just got off the phone with that guy's mom and she said all the ants are gone from her kitchen ! I was really glad to hear that because I'd hate to have an ant in my food next time I visit her :)
