whenever i quit tf2, whether its using the quit button on morehud or typing "quit" into console, it freezes my whole computer and it wont quit tf2. i cant alt tab out of tf2, and it just wont close. if i ctrl+alt+dlt then open up task manager it still wont let me close tf2. the only way to fix it is to ctrl+alt+dlt and then log out and log back in.
i have already tried verifying game cache and it hasnt fixed it.
this happend the last 3 times i quit tf2.
help pls?

not a real solution, but can you just use task manager to kill the process in the meantime?

Unfortunately it might be related to custom HUDs. Hopefully a better solution will come in future but for now using default hud seemed to stop the issue for me.

I'm getting these crashes since the last update (2 weeks ago?) with every hud I used.
I can shut down tf2 from the taskmanager tho, just be sure to have the "always on top", or whatever its called in english, checked under the task manager settings tab!

I've been having the same problem ever since I came back a week ago, as far as I can tell, keeping the game open for longer increases the chances of it happening. Simply killing the process works for me though

would using the "improved default hud" fix it? since it has fewer hud elements?
Ill try what hypnotize said as well. Ill try the improved default hud and come back.

I thought I was the only one having this problem. Also, is anyone else's Localhost map selection menu taking around 20 seconds to open?

if the reason you can't kill the process from the task manager is because your mouse won't click, you can use the arrow keys to select the process and then delete to kill it

I tried default hud and improved default hud for like 20 mins each, and so far it has been fine. ill post again if i get the same error with improved default hud after playing for a long time.
edit: it happened to me when i was using improved default hud as well. also hl2 has been crashing more often as well.
hopefully valve the pyro update fixes it (:

This happened to me like a week or two ago, worked around it by task-killing.
It randomly stopped happening after like 2 days though, so idk

I swore this problem was affecting me alone I usually just have to ctrl+alt+del and sign out.

Ive been having a crazy amount of crashes recently, just happens randomly when i connect to a server or server changes map. sometimes my fps drops to like 20fps and I get awful input lag over ~10 seconds at a time
thanks valve =)
im using garm3n ql hud which is pretty old though so that might be the problem

as a work-around i think you can windows-tab which will show all windows open, then move tf2 onto another monitor or onto another virtual desktop (windows 10) which will then let you click on task manager

This has worked for me
Also if I type "exit" into console instead of "quit" TF2 doesn't encounter that problem but your mileage may vary
Edit: I'm having the same problem if I type exit so yeah that sucks
