I got this problem and it was because I kept my dxlevel in the launch options line. I just removed the text and it stopped doing that.

if ur on windows 10, windows + tab, open a new desktop, open task manager in that desktop, kill hl2.exe, windows + tab again, close desktop 2

if ur on windows 10, [b]windows + tab[/b], open a new desktop, open task manager in that desktop, kill hl2.exe, [b]windows + tab[/b] again, close desktop 2

hl2.exe is usually the first program shown on the list, so I just alt+tab, press down, then the menu key (≣), and end the task, which works even if the window doesn't show up.

windows + r
taskkill /F /IM hl2.exe
enter
