Noise-cancelling earbuds suggestions?

I'm looking for some suggestions for earbuds to use in the gym. The gym at my school has music playing, and I like to listen to my own- but I have to turn my music up pretty loud to drown out the gym's music. I'd like to not have to do that, to take better care of my hearing. So, I'm looking for earbuds with noise-cancelling, and decent sound quality- can I get something pretty good with a budget of $50 US? Any suggestions?

Thanks :)

In-ear headphones should block out enough outside noise for your use case. Active noise cancelling at your budget doesn't seem feasible to me.

i'm not sure how well noise cancelling earbuds would work to cancel loud music playing, because the sound waves that come from music are too varying and unpredictable for an algorithm to generate the inverse waves needed to cancel out the sound. noise cancelling would work great on something like the engine noise on an airplane trip, probably not the gym

what you're probably looking for is an in-ear monitor, which forms a seal in your ear canal (i'm just assuming you're not using one since you're having issues with gym music, which i wouldn't expect to be too deafening). in my experience, using a foam tip has the best sound isolation afaik. i'm not enough of a gearhead to point you to a specific earphone but that should send you in the right direction

Yeah get a good pair of IEM's with some comply tips and you should be good to go with noise. The issue here being most IEM's are going to be at or above the 50$ price point and some of the better ones you will be looking at a minimum of 100 ish.

Personally i would recommend a pair of Shure se215 as a basic entry pair of IEMs. Not amazing compared to what is out there but if you are used to things like iphone head phones or $20 wallmart ones they are a major step up.
