tool assisted speedrun, you can rewind, record your movement and shit and make cool stuff

that's how the plugin works? looks like more of a segmented run tool to me, in speedrunning TAS is normally programming inputs which lets you do things impossible for humans (and not just merely very difficult)

Technically tas jump map runs are just segmented runs but since it requires an outside plugin I would argue it does fall under the umbrella of "tool assisted" even if it isn't frame perfect pixel perfect individual inputs we often see in tas runs of other games.

all the tool does though is stitch it together into a nice demo, other games will also have tools to do that or tools for swapping saves quickly etc. should still be called segmented imo but w/e at this point

well you could have loads of segments in quick succession with multiple in a second, doesnt really seem like a segmented run to me

as do many segmented runs in other games (depending on the level of fidelity they're aiming for), just because a tool is involved doesn't make it TAS

Scripted runs in css bunnyhop were considered TAS runs for years and still are by many, "stitching demos" live in this case is 100% considered a tas run. That being said what you are saying is ignoring the fact that theres frame-by-frame manipulation and to a greater extent, rewind. A large amount of knowledge is still involved but it takes out almost all of the execution requirements, which for most jumpers is the majority of the skill involved. Tool assisted has a broader definition than you think.

gemmjust because a tool is involved doesn't make it TAS
So if it's not necessarily a tool assisted speedrun even if a tool is involved, does that mean tool assisted speedruns without using any tools are possible?
Doesn't make much sense, does it?

The definition of TASes differ from community to community, so you are not entirely wrong. However it is considered a TAS in the TF2 community.

its extremely frowned upon by the best jumpers because it takes the skill out of jumping and can make the shittiest jumpers appear to be gods overnight
tas runs are really fun to watch tho

theres more to tas than just stitching together recordings
tas also allows for plugins that are (supposed to be) banned in regular speedruns/tricks such as bouncetools (realtime bounce prediction), edgebug assist, syncr, etc
