mkhud causing tf2 to crash after windows reinstall

So I got a fresh install of Windows today to get rid of all the junk files I collected on my PC over time. When i tried to start tf2 with mkhud it wouldn't load to the main menu.
The default hud and other custom huds i tried worked without a problem. I asked a friend to try if he could use mkhud and he didn't crash.
I was using the latest version of mkhud both on my old and new windows install.

Does anyone know what could cause these problems?

Bumping because I'm having the same problem, showing initial loading screen then immediately closing.

Try removing mainmenuoverride within resources > ui. It's a stretch but it could be that some elements within the main menu it are broken.
