Hey guys, I use my desktop @ 1024x768 100hz. I would like to know if there is a way to have tf2 launch with 800x600 140hz.

weird, the -freq command makes my monitor black after tf2 is done loading. I can still see the mouse however, and I know my monitor can handle that refresh rate at that resolution.

What hooli said will work, but only if your monitor automatically switches to a higher refresh rate when the resolution is lowered. Most monitors that I know of need to have the refresh rate set manually after the resolution is changed.

Sounds like thats what my issue is then not_matlock. Is there anyway I could make a .bat file or something of the like that will launch tf2 then change my res/refresh for me?

Tf2 and any other game @fullscreen, can only run the same resolution@refreshrate that windows(?) allows on the desktop.

You could just add to the EDID your resolution and refreshrate.
This might be of use. I used a program called CRU that created an entirely new EDID for the edited monitor...

If you have nvidia, you can rather use the driver software to create a new resolution.

Be aware that editing the EDID may damage your hardware, depending on the values!!!

This is 'overclocking' a monitor.

I think this goes into hardware?

I've had that problem before when I had my CRT. I would test 164 hertz with a resolution of 640x480 and it would go through but when I try to do it with TF2's launch options I get what you are describing. What I ended up doing is dropping my -freq value by 1 until TF2 accepted it. I ended up with a refresh rate of 144. I'm not a monitor expert but 144 is a common refresh rate preset and TF2 might only display if you have your refresh rate set to one of the commonly used presets. Maybe try 144?
