As a medic I think the original is better because of the different sound. I thought this wasn't a factor at first, but I've have died to bombs that I didn't even hear coming, all of them originals.

Honestly there is very little difference, but if you feel comfortable using both I think the original is the way to go.

I think the original is also more consistent because of it shooting directly from the middle. The RL has the slight advantage around corners half the time but a slight disadvantage the other half. Other than that and the sound difference it doesnt matter.

I personally prefer the original.

A lot of Quake veterans use the original, and a lot of Quake veterans play TF2. So that's a reason you see it a lot.
