Ascent.EU saw opportunity with Connor as Nursey steps down

True to their name, Ascent.EU is going back to a full European roster as Nursey steps down from the team, with Connor taking on the role as the team's Medic. Nursey’s decision is due to burnout from playing at the top level of two leagues, as Nursey is also the Medic for froyotech in ESEA.

Nursey was previously seen in Europe in ETF2L Season 25, where they played with sauna slayers. sauna slayers was not Nursey's first experience in Europe however, having previously played for The Last Resort and Planet Express before that. Nursey has primarily found success in North America, winning the Rewind 2017 Invitational and ESEA Season 24 with the aforementioned froyotech.

Connor unites with the top of Europe less than a week after his former team nunya forfeited the season. While originally joining Ascent.EU to sub, the English medic was ready to step in at the drop of a hat. Connor is not unfamiliar with top-level TF2, having played for SVIFT last season and at Insomnia63, finishing on the podium at both events.

We reached out to AMS, the team leader of Ascent.EU, who was able to shed some light on what motivated this decision, as well as reaffirming his ambitions for this season.

Nursey feels she is getting burnt out due to playing so much TF2 in both NA and EU, as well as in a highlander team, so we are moving her to backup and replacing her with Condawg. Condawg fit the team really well and has previous experience playing at the top level so he has adapted to our playstyle really quickly.

We are keening up big time for the rest of the season and have been playing really well lately and investing a lot of time into reviewing demos and getting better as a team. There is still lots of work to be done and having Condawg catch up with everything we do will take its time but we are coming for 1st place this season and are going to work as hard as we can to make that a reality.

We also reached out to Connor, who briefly gave his side of the story.

nunya died, so AMS asked me to sub. I merced a couple games and the official this week, then AMS asked me this morning to main because Nursey was burnt out.

Back from a trip to the county fair, Ascent.EU's roster is now:

  • Scout: AMS
  • Scout: credu
  • Roamer: Drackk
  • Pocket: Silentes
  • Demoman: Elacour
  • Medic: Connor

Snakes are elongated, legless, carnivorous reptiles of the suborder Serpentes.[2] Like all squamates, snakes are ectothermic, amniote vertebrates covered in overlapping scales. Many species of snakes have skulls with several more joints than their lizard ancestors, enabling them to swallow prey much larger than their heads with their highly mobile jaws. To accommodate their narrow bodies, snakes' paired organs (such as kidneys) appear one in front of the other instead of side by side, and most have only one functional lung. Some species retain a pelvic girdle with a pair of vestigial claws on either side of the cloaca. Lizards have evolved elongate bodies without limbs or with greatly reduced limbs about twenty five times independently via convergent evolution, leading to many lineages of legless lizards.[3] Legless lizards resemble snakes, but several common groups of legless lizards have eyelids and external ears, which snakes lack, although this rule is not universal (see Amphisbaenia, Dibamidae, and Pygopodidae).

I feel like this happens everytime Nursey decides to play in EU

She feels motivated
Plays in NA and EU
Realizes how much TF2 she actually has to play
Gets burnt out and quits the EU team
Repeat after a few seasons

I never quit TLR, I never quit Planet Express, and I never quit the first iteration of Sauna Slayers. Until my third time playing ETF2L HL, I never quit a team in EU. This is my first time quitting a team from EU (A total of two times with one time including HL). I always finished the season with all of the other teams. I have no idea how you came down to this line of logic or what I personally did to make you come to a blatantly false conclusion.

edit: I've said multiple times that it did burn me out, but I never wanted to ditch a team and leave them medicless. I was gone for the entirety of last week due to me trying to get a job, and AMS told me the team liked Condawg a lot. FROYOTECH are well aware that I was burning myself out with a lot of tf2 (NA HL, 7v7, ESEA, streaming a lot, etc). Ascent.EU already had a replacement medic ready. The decision after that seems obvious.
