So, after years playing scout on a shitty 60hz/5ms monitor, finally I could save a little bit of money to buy this monitor: https://www.samsung.com/us/business/support/owners/product/2233rz-series-2233rz/
It's 120hz, but apparently it has a 4ms response time.
For now this is the only model I can buy in Brasil as I could only find different models for twice the price of it, spending that much is pretty much out of the question for me as I plan to start college next year and just can't get a full time job for 2 months and quit it.
The reason I wanted to buy a monitor like this is to play at higher levels, as I feel my shit monitor is holding me back and for a flank scout good dm is extremelly important . Will the difference be big enough to justify the price or it won't be noticeable at all? I've seen a lot o people talking how much smoother and nicer it feels, and for someone who just tracks it seems pretty apealling.
How much would the difference be to from 4ms to a 1ms monitor tho? I really don't know as I never saw a 1ms monitor in action before, neither a 120hz display, so this is a very difficult decision for me to make and I don't wanna end up regretting it later, obviously from my country flag you should now every penny counts.
Thanks for anyone who can help me on this!

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is that manufacturers measure response time differently, so they can't be directly compared between monitors.

It will be noticeable. I went from a 60 Hz to a 144 Hz and it made TF2 much more pleasant to play. Whether or not the price is justified is up to you. My opinion is that if you're fine spending that money on your computer, a 120 Hz monitor is a worthy upgrade.

could also go the CRT route if you know where to find them near you. some CRT monitors can do 120hz. worth checking out.
I would get a CRT monitor. just a matter of finding the right one, they are usually dirt cheap.
the response time is simply better than lcd's. the refresh rates can be well over 100hz up to like 260hz depending on the model and resolution. u will have to play 4:3 on low resolution ofc. but for just pure aim they are really strong

If you look for a CRT look for the "trinitron" or "diamondtron" label – those typically run at high hertz. Be sure to ask for the model number and just look up the technical specs online.
Vouching for "trinitron" i think, got a CRT for like 8$ 4+ years ago and honestly think my dm was better than it is on my asus 120hz.
self proclaimed monitor expert here
all 120hz, crt or not will technically have a 8,333 ms response time (milliseconds/refresh rate)
the TN panels compared to crt will still have far more absolute input lag due to how the technology works
response time is not something you can always trust because it is dependant on how the manufacturer
i'd recommend you to go for a 1920x1080 (16:9 instead of 1680x1050 16:10) 144hz monitor instead (or crt if you can easily find one that lets you go to higher hz by lowering the resolution)
used 144hz might also not be such a bad option

oh no how will i ever be able to read 9 sentences in my native tongue

going from 5 to 1ms response time will be a better upgrade than the higher refresh rate
I got my 144hz 1ms for quite a premium, but it was for sure worth it all. If you can't afford a 240, for sure 144hz is the route. You can find them easily for pretty cheap, especially with the monday coming. I would 100 percent wait until monday and ask for some recommendations.

You are a bit late on that train m8. I've been trying to find a decent CRT for my retro shit for the last year or so and they have basically been unobtainium.

out of curiosity I did look for a CRT on CL in my area and I pretty much came to the same conclusion as screwb. I think you'd actually have better luck contacting IT folks working at companies in your area to see if they got any old stuff in storage but that's going to take a great deal of effort. garage sales might also be an option – the bigger and heavier it is the more likely it's chilling in someone's basement. I also suggest checking out ebay for local listings so you can pick up.
Also ask around on Nextdoor or you neighborhood. Probably a lot of people have a CRT stashed in their attic while they work up the courage to pay an e-waste company to take it.
No idea what the CRT market is in Brazil though.
@op what's your budget? In TF2 keys please. IDK what currency they use in Brazil.

Thanks for everyone who commented here, I completely forgot about the CRT's, I found one in my city for just 99 Bolsonaros, compared to the cheapest 120 hz lcd that was 600 I just could not pass the opportunity lol
I have no idea how much high the refresh rate will be tho. A 100hz crt would feel smoother than a 120hz 4ms response time right? As I said before the smoother the better, as I like to practice tr_newbots on 1.5 timescale

I dont think you know how the favelas work :P
I was actually selling some things I had, plus some money I had on the bank and my budget would probably top 1000 Bolsonaros, however there is not a single brand new monitor affordable at that price tho, that's why the monitor I mentioned in the post is so appealing to me. Well, I hope the monitor I'm getting will be good enough for me
