Just ordered a 2600x for a new build and I feel like I’m gonna regret it...
47% faster single core speed over my current processor which barely breaks 100 fps avg 640x480 lowest settings doesn’t really seem good enough considering I’ll be getting a 240hz monitor in the distant future.

I feel like this processor is gonna dip below 200 on midfights and pubs/hl 720p low settings. Should I return it before I build my pc and go for an 8600k and OC to 4.6+?
I honestly just assumed I’d be able to OC 2600x to 4.5 and didn’t do the research before I bought it. What do you guys think?
On a side note csgo currently runs so much better than tf2 on my shitty little laptop that used to run tf2 no problem for years. At what point does valve do something about the degrading performance of this game? It gets worse every major update without fail.

That's with a stock 2600 that can't be over clocked, I think you'll be fine. Especially compared to a 6 year old mobile CPU and a presumably comparably way worse GPU.

I feel like there is functionally no difference in TF2 on my stock 2700x compared to my old 4.8ghz 4690k when running nothing else in the background. If anything else is running the 2700x is FAR superior.

while I have you guys here, I'm reading weird things about ryzen and ram speeds. on reddit people were saying to get b die ram from samsung or something like that? also should I go with x470 or b450? I don't mind spending a bit more if x470 is gonna future proof my rig better.

Mild OC on the 2600x you should still be above 200fps on midfights in 6s though. Will it be as good as a 8600k or 9600k overclocked to 5GHz? No, but should still be really good and gives you more breathing room for open background programs.
Setsul will probably know better than me, but I would lean toward going for a x470 or a really good b450 as a lot of the cheaper AMD motherboards tend to be exceptionally awful in terms of quality.

I would suggest the MSI B450M MORTAR on a budget. One of the best VRMs on an AM4 board under $100.

Yes, Samsung B Dies are most likely to actually work at the advertised speed. I'd aim for 3200 MHz CL16.
X470 gets you:
-4 more USB 3.0 Gen1 Ports, which you probably don't care about.
-2 more SATA 3 Ports or 1 SATA Express Port, which you won't use unless you've got at least 3 SSDs.
-2 more PCIe 2.0 lanes which you definitely don't care about
-SLI support, which you shouldn't care about.
So B450 is fine. Just get a mobo with 4 RAM slots, 2 indicates that corners have been cut.

That's a bog standard 4+2 design, what makes it better than literally any other mobo? Sure, in exchange for having worse MOSFETs the use double on the high side, but that doesn't really improve anything.
I wouldn't be worried about not getting enough power and start worrying about getting garbage regulation quality because "budget" and "high quality chokes and capacitors" do not go well together.
Below 100$ the main thing is getting good airflow and a real because at the end of the day getting the heat away from the MOSFETs is way more important than some minor differences between all those 4 phase designs.
It's a good budget mobo but there's only so much you can do on a budget.
