i accidentally spilled candle wax on my kb last night, cleaned it in the morning, plugged it in and now it doesnt work.

wax isn't conductive or corrosive, it should be fine if you take it all apart and clean it with qtips + alcohol.

maybe you need to extend it by 3"
usually short extension cables are for putting the port in a more accessible location without huge amounts of loose cable being left over, or if there isn't much space around the port to let bulkier connectors work with it though
