I haven't used the null movement script since I started playing. My team is telling me it will improve my strafe/movement on soldier.
I'm just curious how many im/invite soldiers use null movement script and how much of a difference it makes.
This is a thread I found from two years ago discussing null movement script and there are mixed opinions.

Probably better for solly than scout because you can fuck your jumps and strafes by movement canceling where as having super choppy movement on scouts is a good things because you become annoying as fuck to hit and predict due to move speed. Sollys are also slow as shit so they cant abuse the move speed stutter step.

no downsides, just use it

yeah it's fine. i used to presume it would cause problems jumping and airstrafing (esp like tapping s for precise landing on fences etc) but it's actually never been an issue for me since i tried it on all classes. doesn't make a noticeable difference tbh

Movement is one of the most important things in the game, so obviously the ability to change directions faster and being able to handle your moves better is a good enough reason to use it. I don't see how you can fuck your jumps or strafes with it if you are semi-competent as soldier too, not to mention if it does do so, it's yet another thing to perfect

Of course you should be taking your team's advice and using the Null Movement script you nitwit. You would have to be a complete imbecile not to benefit from it.

it's one of those things that should come with the game by default on soldier tbh
never thought of turning it off on scout though. so that's the secret... woah.

I thought rocket jumping seemed easier without null movement script, probably my imagination
not having the script adds another dimension to movement on the ground (stopping in place vs changing direction), though you can do both either with or without the script I think it's easier to do the pauses without the script and not any harder to change direction
edit: I had stopped using it because I was playing cs and wanted consistency between games

vladpersonal preference
not really
your movement is the same except with the script you are protected from not having a strafe key register when both strafe keys are simultaneously held down.
if you are saying that not having any strafe keys register when both strafe keys are held down is desirable at any point then I guess it is personal preference but it seems to me that most, if not all, people just let go of their strafe keys when they want to stop strafing.

its personal preference, it does not make you better or worse and if you like the way it feels, continue to use it

because tapping a key to pause your strafe for an instant is way faster than letting go and re-pressing

Same as above pretty much, just mind your own business and say what you got to say regarding the thread
PS: your brain has never got those cells you pretend to be losing in the first place

lootbecause tapping a key to pause your strafe for an instant is way faster than letting go and re-pressing
If you are holding A then the following will take the same amount of movement/time:
A) Pushing and releasing D
B) Releasing and pushing A
nvm you're right

Not using null-movement script is better but only marginally so.
1. You don't need a script to move like that.
2. You have the ability to stop basically instantly, which despite what some would say is a bonus in of itself.
Ex. If you're moving to the left (holding down A) and you want to stop really quickly just tap and hold D and quickly let go and press A back down. Otherwise you'll just decelerate and move a little bit in the direction you were already going.
3. You have the option of holding down opposite movement keys and letting go of one of them to move again. While not really that big of a difference for some people this may be more comfortable to do.
Realistically it's not that big of a difference. Depending on how you normally rocket jump using the null-movement script can really fuck you or slightly help you.

AthletickIf you have a mechanical keyboard would a null movement script even do anything?
kawa#16 is correct btw
What does this even mean? Null movement scripts just change what happens when you're pressing two keys at once, why would using a mechanical keyboard change that?
On any modern keyboard with more than 2KRO, a mech will be functionally identical to a membrane keyboard with similar key travel (actuation point will be different, but in terms of timing is so minor that it really won't matter). The way you naturally move might not benefit from it, but that has absolutely nothing to do with your keyboard.

I've been using it the past two days. The biggest thing that convinced me was that apparently there is a lower delay between a and d strafes on soldier midair with the null movement script so your midair movement might become a little better.
I feel a little weird losing the ability to stutter step really easily, especially on scout, but I sometimes feel like I can change directions a little faster. Will continue to use the null movement script. I main soldier so I'm not worried about losing some movement on scout.
