Hey tftv
Dallas, TX is almost 500 miles closer to me than NYC, but I consistently get 20-30 more ping connecting to Dallas servers than the latter, as well as significantly more jitter. Confirmable with pingtest.
Does anybody know what could cause this? Is it probably stemming from my ISP, or from something to do with Texas? I just would like for half of TF2 servers to not be completely unplayable, for one thing I can't do tf2mix at all...

I have the same problem with Dallas servers in particular. I live in Washington and I get around 70 ping or so to Chicago and 100 ping to Dallas.

Dallas servers just don't seem to be as good, I get better ping/stability from west coast servers and I'm on the north shore.

Yeah, I'm near NYC and get better ping in CA servers than Dallas ones.

Well I guess that clears it up. Raises the question, though, why do people still host there?

I lice in California and I get the same ping to Dallas as I do to Chicago and Atlanta. ~100ms.

I think the servers for tf2mix are those of tragic and his servers vary, but are usually pretty bad. I get a consistent 140ms on those, and about 90ms on ESEA's Dallas servers.
I wish I was lying.

I had a Tragic Chicago server and it ran better than any other Chi I've played on, so I doubt that's the case

Holy shit you guys are lucky. I get 130+ ping to most Dallas servers, inevitable lost packets, and choke regardless of net settings.
Pretty much the whole reason I stopped trying to solly or demo.
The only reason I can find is terrible routing. My connection to ESEA's Dallas is worse than anything. I get a more stable and playable connection to the EU. Not even kidding.

tranchemusicWell I guess that clears it up. Raises the question, though, why do people still host there?
Because they don't give a shit about other people and would rather play on 10 ping instead of 30 ping.
That's my theory.
(There are people who think 50 ping is high.)

They vary. My team had a tragicservers chicago that I pinged 105 to when every other chicago server I pinged 80. Then again those other servers where probably tragic's too.
But for the tf2mix and pug.na dallas servers, they are bad. Very bad.

routing can be messed up sometimes. it routes me through washington to get to chicago so i get 80 ping to chicago instead of 12
