Damage batching is when your HUD displays multiple damage numbers as being added together. This is enabled with "hud_combattext_batching 1".
hud_combattext_batching_window lets you tweak the maximum interval at which multiple hits are added together.
I personally use 0.62 as it can otherwise be unclear if scattergun/shotgun shots batch together, due to the polarizing damage of spread weapons. Being below the threshold of 0.625 ensures the consistency of scattergun/shotgun shots never batching.
Keep note that sometimes you'll chain damage batches on weapons with a slower rate-of-fire than your batching interval. This may incidentally occur through weapon switching, fire/bleed, or projectile travel time (think sync-rockets)
Here's a fire speed list so you can decide what weapons to account for:
0.1 minigun/smg/syringe gun
0.12 tomislav
0.1445 pretty boy's pocket pistol
0.15 pistol
0.17 winger
0.28 air strike RJ
0.3 hothand (between the two hits)
0.315 force-a-nature/soda popper
0.36 shortstop
0.48 eviction notice
0.5 weapon switch, scout melee/revolver/short circuit secondary fire
0.531 family business
0.6 grenade launcher/stickybomb launcher
0.625 scattergun/shotgun
0.68 jag
0.696 ambassador/enforcer
0.8 rocket/pomson/melee (except scout)
0.88 solemn vow
0.96 market gardener/ullapool caber/killing gloves/ubersaw
1.5 sniper
1.6 crossbow
1.94 huntsman
[maximum batching window] 2.0 flaregun
