In a statement on his blog, 1Stirling states the reason for the blog's discontinuation is an increasing personal focus on a separate statistics project involving motorsports, which builds upon models he had developed for TF2Metrics. While he states he will remain an avid spectator of competitive TF2 and remains optimistic in the future of the scene.
Originally, he intended to close out TF2Metrics with an international LAN, namely the Beyond the Summit TF2 LAN, which would've featured competitive from North America, Europe, and Asia. However, following the dissolution of the event, the site's closure was pushed to Copenhagen Games 2020, which would meet an unrelated fate due to the ongoing global pandemic. With Insomnia67 — the next major LAN event — in contention, and the next season of competition coming soon, 1Stirling was forced to make the decision of closing up shop.
TF2Metrics has been calculating and providing rankings across multiple regional scenes for the past four years, providing stats on the high-level teams and players. Despite its heavy use of number-crunching, 1Stirling states he created TF2Metrics as "more of a way to entertain than it was to inform."
Before the end of the week, TF2Metrics will release their last update post, which feature the final results of AsiaFortress Cup 16, as well as teams from the previous season of ozfortress, RGL, and ETF2L. Additionally, as one last signoff, 1Stirling hopes to release a retrospective on the project to reflect upon the last three years of the project's existence.
