theres no incentive to become the best and win, other then prestige. even if it small amount of money, people actually take things seriously when they pay for them. lets be honest here, does anyone think that a team on the caliber of froyotech could emerge from a free league? Even if that league had 17 seasons to grow, if it has no LAN final and no cash prize, putting in several hours a day to win a virtual medal just isn't worth it.
etf2l had no lan, no cash prize (mousepads heh), and no entry fee and they still made epsilon, just saying

etf2l isn't significantly behind NA in terms of skill, every match at i52 was a nailbiter except the grand finals
although maybe that's changed now that every european team died after i52

I don't understand why esea would not extend the deadline. There are a crapton of unpaid/unsigned up teams that want to give esea money, and the community seems to be in agreement that teams will be finalized after the new year. How is an extension not mutually beneficial?

plinkoI'm trying to decide between sponsoring some low teams like this or just offering a cash prize to the top teams of new players/that make the jump from UGC/somesuch in Open.
Any suggestions/ideas?
I feel that paying fees would get more teams to join rather than offering a prize (which might not be seen as that great of an incentive considering teams would have to pay to qualify for the prize).

The thing is, its not much of a nerf. The radius is decreased by 15%, and thats when it first exits the launcher, and it reverts back to normal radius by a mere 2 seconds, which isnt really that much, considering that the damage isn't affected by the change at all.- Stickybombs that detonate in the air now have a radius ramp up, starting at 85% at base arm time (0.8s) going back to 100% over 2 seconds. Stickies that touch the world will have full radius.
Base arm time is 0.8 seconds after you launch the sticky bomb, in other words, the earliest time you can det a sticky after shooting it. 85% radius might not seem like much, but you really shouldn't be looking at the radius, but the volume of the explosion:
V original = 4/3πr^3
V now = 4/3π(0.85r)^3 = 0.614125(4/3πr^3)
The sphere of damage created by a detonating sticky at the earliest detonation time now covers 61% of the volume it used to. The area in the x-z plane is 72%.
This mostly affects the demoman's ability to deal damage to multiple people at once.
sticks and pipes both had their radius' nerfed by .92, so airstickies actually have .47 of their original volume.

pipes and stickies have .92 of original radius
base arm time for air stickies is .85 of nerfed radius, so .78 of original radius
equation for volume of a sphere is v = 4/3 * pi * r^3
For pipes/stickies on the ground:
4/3 * pi * (.92^3) = volume of 3.26, or 78% of original volume
For base arm time of air stickies:
4/3 * pi * (.78^3) = volume of 1.98, or 47% of original volume
