It's his money and he can do what he likes with it, but he's basically paying $2000 to watch prolander. And on established (or even rejected) maps no less.
It's not really a valuable experiment if everything's been done before. Prolander's been done, pick/bans have been done, and most of the maps have been done too.
Would have been cool to see a new map tournament or something with maybe a more liberal white list or CL2 or whatever. At least that would have been something new. It's his prerogative to rehash stuff if he likes of course, but I wish he'd stop rejecting the current format as elitist because he hasn't personally seen all the reasons for himself.
EDIT: actually on second thought liberal white lists and CL2 have both already been done too ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
This white list is going to obliterate lower divs. Everyone has already pointed out how bad Atomizer and stuff is, but also, so many of these unlocks are going to make for an atrocious lower div experience. A lot players here can probably outplay stuff like Gunslinger or LnL, but imagine how a low level player experiences it. Those are direct upgrades for less skilled players. That's an entire universe of cheese strats opened up there.
I do like the sentiment of getting all the leagues on the same page though.
i thought the hate against Crowns was excessive but I take it back this is ridiculous
edit: SAVE US MIKE
yui and madness are so in sync having them running right at you must be terrifying
PertPaddie 10-28 with 172 dpm yikes!
being b4nnys roamer is not good for your health
I don't hate either of the changes that helped scout recently. Pretty much all of his buffs in recent memory (not counting unlocks) were collateral of other (bad) changes like the escape plan or sticky nerf. They didn't really address his core issues and if those core issues are ever resolved then I don't think those changes will matter at all. They're basically QOL improvements for low skill players and I don't think that's terrible.
Also I feel like the increased weapon switch speed counts as a nerf to scout.
I had a great time during the beta. I was expecting this game to bomb but I was really surprised at how much fun I had. The only thing I really hated in the game was Mcree's flashbang/fan combo, even the ultimates didn't bother me. Widowmaker is head and shoulders above the rest in terms of effectiveness.
My biggest issue is with the game's horrendous movement. Aim really matters in the game, which I appreciate a lot, but because everyone moves slowly and predictably, the skill cap for aiming is way way way lower than it is in a game like TF2. I feel that if they could somehow resolve this one area, the game would be amazing. Idk how they'd do that though. It'd take some core reworks to introduce advanced movement to the game. If they ever did that though, it would seriously bolster the FPS side of the game, and even go a long way in balancing a character like Widowmaker.
I gotta say though, going back to TF2 after the beta sorta feels like returning to an abuser. Playing a polished, balanced, optimized, and populated game like Overwatch only further underscored how hilariously neglected TF2 has been as anything other than a hat simulator. It makes me sad :(
I'll definitely be buying Overwatch and I expect to put at least a couple hundred hours into it, but since Blizzard has a history of fucking over their dedicated players in favor of mass appeal, I'm sure it's only a matter of time until they do something that makes me quit like they have 3 of their other games
Maybe explain the mechanics behind the techniques? I always found that understanding why a speedshot happens or why a ctap happens really helped me when I was learning them. Instead of just 'do these inputs', actually break down what's happening in the game engine.
good luck!
eeeBeing good for the game isn't the same as being a well designed weapon tho. Gunboats are well designed AND add to the game. Just because the Booties are a bad weapon doesn't mean they're bad for the game. Something can be OP (EP) or niche af (Conch) and still make the game more fun and interesting, but the idea should be to make weapons that both expand what the class can do with skill and allow the class to close holes in the game that are causing stalemates or unpleasant gameplay.
Booties don't create a shift in the demoman class the way the gunboats do. They're not game-changing, and that's strike 1. Strike 2 is they're overpowered. 3 is they're less skill indexed and lower the skill ceiling of the class. Sorry that I didn't really complete that thought earlier but it was mostly a response to like a 3 month old post talking about them being shitty weapons, not shitty for the game.
Sorry, I'm having a hard time following this. Escape Plan is OP, and therefore a bad weapon design, but bad weapon design doesn't necessarily mean it's bad for the game. Everyone's fine with the escape plan. The booties fulfill this same criteria, but everyone isn't fine with it. And you say the conch makes the game more interesting (I agree), but there was serious talk of banning it a couple years ago because it engineers formulaic last re-pushes, reasoning outside of the scope of the criteria you've listed. Can you clarify?
thanks for everything you've done for the jump community. wish you well wherever you go.
Froyotech make 6s look like a solved game. Those stats are pristine. Perfect heal spread, perfect damage counts, perfect K/Ds, and all against one of the better teams out there. I feel like 6s has lost the variability it used to have with changes with stickies (and subsequently kritz) and the equalizer, and now there's always one right answer that Froyotech always knows. Obviously that'd be more true on Gully than most other maps but still.
Or maybe my interest in 6s is just waning.
Either way pretty amazing play from Froyotech

lan was only holding us back!
downpourjump_pagoda and jump_aridia stand out
These + tholos
Also it ain't as pretty but I always loved Impact's sort of storyline
could the weapon pickup thing be preparation for Source 2? Bringing it more in line with CS:GO so that transitioning to the new engine is easier?
Cuz it seems kinda silly for tf2. I mean I could see cool stuff happening with like, killing a med and taking his medigun with charge, but otherwise what are the odds of killing an enemy player of the same class in a situation where their fully loaded gun is dropped and you dont have time to reload yours? Maybe it's not intended as a serious mechanic and it's more for pubs and people who want to switch weapons all the time.
