#99 The demoman nerf: a semi-statistical analysis in TF2 General Discussion

I get where you're coming from Kaneco but you can't just refuse to adapt. Your team's performance and your deaths imply a lot of room for aggression, which seems like the new name of the game to me. I haven't gotten to play as much as I'd like since the change but it's either that or playing super-duper passive, which is boring. If we look on the bright side, being a less important pick means we have more freedom to go for bigger players and/or die. More bombs for position and stuff. You can still make space as a human cannonball, which may eventually end up being more exciting than the traditional style of play.

pleasantly surprised to see the positive attitudes despite the traditional open initiation stompfest. Hope you guys keep at it and ask if you need help

mario"Grenades and Stickybombs now have the same base blast radius as rockets. Changed to 146 from 159."
This is the radius change: http://i.imgur.com/T0WfNkH.jpg

Although Valve is known to give us wrong data.

I'm pretty sure this is the change for stickies on the ground. Air-detted stickies ranges are significantly smaller.

Anyways I think demo's just become a lot more boring to play in 6s. I can't really threaten an advancing team unless they're all standing in a choke, and all I feel like I'm doing is putting up impromptu traps and perpetually backing up. I think it took a while for that to become apparent to me cuz people reflexively dove for cover when stickies showed up, even if they weren't really dangerous anymore, but eventually they figured it out

Can anyone tell me if using duolingo is worth it?
From my perspective it just seems to teach you words and phrases, not how certain languages actually work.

I've been using it for a few months and I think it's worth it. It's nice to be able to do quick little 'lessons' here and there. It gives you instant feedback but never explains the language to you, so the beginning is a lot of rote memorization until you can deduce the patterns behind it. You can just google stuff if you wanna know more about it. I expect it only gives you the rough basics of a language if you complete a course, but that's all you need to start reading books in the language or whatever you want to do to advance your understanding of it.

#79 Overwatch, Overhyped? in TF2 General Discussion
kirbyI'm willing to get behind any game that's structured the way this game is. The sad part is, most of them don't end up being that good/fun and get stale quickly. Maybe this will be different, who knows.

why would you keep getting behind games structured like this then

#53 Tf2 update 07/01/15 in TF2 General Discussion
bastidI'm kind of arguing that Demo doesn't need something extra he can do when he already has some of the best tools in the game. And like I said the option still presents itself during Kritz or building demolition.

All I know is I want to let the changes sit for a good while.

While the change might make Demo more balanced (which is a completely null issue in a class based game to begin with) I think it just makes the class a little less enjoyable to play. There's not much point in taking long range shots when there's a low chance of hitting, and if you do it's mediocre damage. You're better off just saving ammo most of the time.

I don't understand why you would ever want to 'cap skill,' but this change doesn't cap it, it functionally removes it entirely. I COULD keep shooting long range stickies all the time, but why?

Not that I think we should go back to 2 shotting medics at mid (which was pretty hilarious for me) but I'd also like to see more damage than what we've got now.

#36 Overwatch, Overhyped? in TF2 General Discussion

I wouldn't say I'm hyped for it but I expect it to be a well made, polished game worth the money, so I'm definitely buying it. I don't really expect it to be like TF2 though

#64 eXtv-Vlog: The Future in TF2 General Discussion

I'm open to alternative formats if they're all about what made me fall in love with 6s TF2.

I love TF2 because it balances technical skill, teamwork, and tactics in a way I don't find in most other games. It lets people play to their strengths and produces all sorts of play styles that blend in mesh in different ways. Plus it's fast paced and high stakes.

I'm don't like CS:GO much cuz I'm not very patient, always like to be doing something. I don't like DOTA much for the same reason.

Point is that I'll support any format that gives me those things, but right now that's just 6s. HL is kinda fun but I don't feel like I make much of an impact on the game, feels like low stakes when it's evenly matched. Arena Respawn looks kinda fun but a lot of the weapons in the game detract from what I love about it.

I do agree that 6s has gotten kind of boring lately but I don't blame 6s. The demo update is the first meaningful update to happen in a long while, and it was mostly just tweaks to existing weapons. I've decided I'll be okay with whatever happens to 6s. It had a real good run and I still love the game but it's exhausting trying to stay excited and interested when TF2 barely changes.

I don't see why the new demo weps shouldn't be legal. I personally can't see much of an upside to using either of them.

#54 Smissmass Update: New Weapons and Gamemodes! in TF2 General Discussion

messed around with stickies in walkway and the nerf seems pretty good. I think it's sorta like the DR nerf, not really a nerf but a more appropriate skill index or whatever you call it for the weapon.

also i love the nice round 100s on every pipe

#33 Valve's Game - Ze Knutsson Rollerbladers vs. big boy bonjour in Events

I'm glad to see this might be a more regular thing. Have you guys thought about instituting some sort of weapon ban system? We're gonna have to peel back some layers to see how each unlock performs. So far we've done a good job showing how ridiculous the BFB is but the BFB is probably eclipsing some other unlocks, like CaC or something. Also soldiers are still running DH (not that I blame them) which isn't the most effective 6s launcher. It's all still interesting to watch, thanks for running the events.

Valve used to make big changes, but players (pub and comp) flipped out on them and scared them into ever changing the game up again. Even if you didn't like them (do you really think Dota players graciously accept every change?), Quick-Fix, Short Circuit, Sticky nerf were all big Dota-style changes that the community rejected to keep the game the same.

But it's exactly as you said. DOTA players don't graciously accept every change but that doesn't stop Valve from making them, so that's not an excuse to stop making them in TF2. Besides the only one of those changes you listed that we outright rejected was the sticky change, which was made in complete disregard of the design of the game. Making stickies only useful for traps would be like making rockets only useful for jumping.

The quick-fix was used for the better part of an entire season including LAN grand finals. Valve got pages and pages and pages of feedback, and literally hundreds of STVs and VODs to look at. Clear problems with the weapon were outlined. But there was never any change to it.

Besides, those two events are pretty much the only times in the last 3 or 4 years that Valve made a major change. I'd call them anomalies not regular changes that stopped when people got mad.
