#11 Top 10 TF2 plays - December 2014 in Videos

In the future I think it would be a better choice to include not very impressive frags but important moments like the Simon clip as a bonus thing/shout out after the rest of the frags in order to still spread awareness about cool TF2 events like the charity game while not detracting from the quality of the clips.

#44 Single Player games in Other Games

Apparently Inquisition is really good but I haven't played it yet.

I think you should play the games in order though going from Dragon Age: Origins to Inquisition. Origins is better than Dragon Age II but II actually isn't a bad game at all but people rag on it because they changed the free roam aspect of the game and lightened some of the rpg elements but the gameplay/control is so much better than Origins.

You should seriously consider playing the Metro series and the Mass Effect series as well.

#76 Common Core in Off Topic
brownymasterBiggest problem I see is that it alienates basically every parent from helping their children with math since they also have to learn the new method of math. The questions seem to be literally made for only elementary school kids to understand because they probably don't understand English as well. I mean I guess you don't have to worry about parents teaching their children wrong as much, but it's really too bad you can't teach them multiple ways to do the problem and let them self optimize.

This is really the issue and part of the reason why this new curriculum has seen such bad backlash. This method is very different from what just about every parent has ever seen for basic mathematics. That doesn't change how poorly written and vague a lot of the these questions are, but a lot of the bad publicity comes from the confusion that parents of children are having and not necessarily kids themselves.

#71 The demoman nerf: a semi-statistical analysis in TF2 General Discussion
Daggerbitch boi demo reporting 4 duty. Shoot the fuckin ground now dont charge ur sticks it fucking blows aim below the damn person now and look at the floor and now you gotta single out people instead of multiple air stick damage so much more focus but now scouts rape up the butt and i cant really do shit cuz this radius is fucking garbage and now my pocket does all the dirty work i just get to spam and boring shit only really good for holding chokes and even last pushes suck but whatever just heal the damn pocket and scouts hopefully i can push without getting bombed and raped or plus forwarded by a scout really you cant do shit unless this doesnt happen every push

Essentially the only good post in this thread.

As a side note i personally don't mind the nerf but it definitely made the already incredibly strong scouts even stronger in addition to soldiers since you can't nearly as easily erode the soldiers buffs for mid bombs due to a lack of radius. I think its still probably the best nerf we can hope to get out of valve that is at all fair to the balance.

In essence demo does not nearly have the impact it used to but is still a very important class, only much more easily killed, allowing me to now complain about how easy all other classes are which is my only true goal in this game.

#33 Common Core in Off Topic
clorgI don't remember learning a table for subtraction equations. I remember learning that if you take 2 apples from 3 apples you only have 1 apple remaining, thus 3-2=1. It's similar to that test that was posted above, but no where near as convoluted. Was I learning common core? If so, then I think they did a pretty good job, but that test above is total horseshit with their terminology, phrasing and placement of questions.

But many people do not learn this way because of the rag tag collection of education standards and resources throughout the States. Common core was just trying to create a standard that promotes early math skills and development so needed in our increasingly more complex society while retiring traditional techniques that educators have found to be more harm than good.

But it is correct that the semantics involved are heinously more complicated than necessary when the goal was to simply and aid visualization for earlier age groups.

I think Owl is definitely right on this one. Math has long been a subject that students have either understood or failed in simply because of the way it has traditionally been taught, which was rote memorization and table based solving instead of actual analysis and forming mental connections to real world problems.

The common core has taken the much needed step to push students in forming connections between the abstract math terminology of numbers and connecting them to actual problem solving techniques and logical analysis while promoting visualization as not many students (including myself an Electrical Engineering major) can properly visualize math in its more abstract functions.

It has failed however, to not use fucking horribly designed questions that look like they were designed by the most autistic of bean counters.

Tery_Those articles aren't the only place to talk about Open. Look at the IM thread. And considering you only talked about 2 matches in your W2 "predictions" I wanted to post in here, because this is a thread for S18 Open.
