pernixRepublicans don't want anything good to happen for Obama so democrats look bad. They need to do their jobs and stop jerking off to try to get reelected.
I would doubt any of you will actually be effected by Obamacare, the majority of you being covered under your parents care. It effects me, and let me tell you when it effects you, there is some serious BS surrounding it. . . not just in how confusing it is and how no one seems to really know or be able to explain how much it will really cost, it screws me over in various ways.
1) I work part-time while I look for a full-time job within my major. My part-time job is unionized. Previously, I had healthcare and coverage, it wasn't great but it was something, and it was basically free. Under the new law not only do I lose all union coverage (the company simply doesn't bargain for it with the union anymore due to the mandates passed down by Obama) I am supplemented with no coverage. This means I'll have to pay into Obamacare or pay a fine on my taxes in April...more on this in a second
2) Because Obamacare enforces anyone averaging over 30 work hours a week to be provided healthcare by their company (or that company takes a fine) the company I work for has stopped hiring full time workers. It has even laid off full-time workers (I work for a super-market, those full-timers are "lifers," they live a low standard of life and they have no other skill). It now hires 2 part-timers for every 1 full-time job, and no part-timer is allowed to work over 24 hrs a week to ensure they never average out to 30. Not only does this make the job itself more difficult, it brings the part-time workers (who are mostly also "lifers" and use the job to supplement their income) down to a level where they no longer bring in a week what they used to. And since they are part-time, they no longer have healthcare provided.
3) Under Obamacare these people, making substantially less, will need to pay for health-insurance. Myself, very burdened by student loan costs on-top of a lower income will be forced to buy Healthcare.
4) Obamacare is not free healthcare, people, it is universal healthcare, or a tax. Why is it a tax?
5) After doing lots of research on the web the lowest value I can find for a year of healthcare costs would be 300 dollars. I am not sure how reliable that number is, but I'll use it. This gets me (if I've read through all the convolution correctly) at most the "bronze plan" which is pretty poor and slightly better than the free care I was getting with my union. I could pay that a year (which isn't so bad for me since I don't own house, and have few expenses other than student loans) or I could pay the fine on my taxes.
The fine is 90 bucks.
I get sick once a year. Was sick last week. I had strep-throat. I went to the doctor and bought an anti-biotic out of pocket. It cost me $125 for everything in the end. With the bronze plan, I save maybe half that, but still need to pay for the bronze plan. Tell me, will I be buying Obamacare or paying the tax-fine?
The problem is Obamacare needs young people like myself who are generally not taking much out of the system to be paying into the system. The young need to offset the cost of the old, but the price of the fine is much less, and many young people simply do not have the money.
For me, it's a few extra bucks, but for lots of people, who stuck in dead-end jobs (the people I see almost every-day) they are being hurt by this. Their company is giving less. Providing less hours and no longer offering a plan for part-time workers. The union (which lobbied laughably hard for Obama during the election) is in panic, the employees who voted for Obama also in panic, wondering why they did so.
Now you could say "but it isn't Obama's fault, it is the dumb company for being mean" Sure. But anyone with sense knew this would happen. Businesses are there to make money. You can legislate a business and they'll just find a way to make their money. If I raise the taxes on a company, they raise their prices. They lose little money, but the consumer is hurt. If I tell a company they must provide healthcare for full-time workers, they limit the hiring of full time-workers, and everyone is hurt.
I am all for universal Healthcare. Obamacare is something else. It is a bad law, and I am happy the conservatives are trying all they can to stiffen it.
