I've not got time to get my point across as i've got to head out. But some of the older guys (i really am old now :/ ) will remember Fatality, Heaton, Spawn. Those guys are still doing well now off of the stuff they did back then. I agree that there wasnt $1/2,000,000 prize pots floating about but the CPL events back then were still dropping 15/20k to winners and there was a few of those a years. Before FPS games got overtaken by MOBAs and the RTS games you could make a tidy living and see a fair bit of the world if you were top level.
Turned it off after "10 years ago competitive gaming wasnt a thing". Think you'll find i was smashing fuck out of the ED Ladder and playing CSGN 10 years ago. CPL and ClanBase were kind of big too.

I've had this before with a scrap bot. If you readd the person that has messaged you, you can read the messages. At which point the 8 notifications will go away. You can then remove the user and no more notification. The hard part is finding out who the user is that has removed you after leaving you messages.
