#5 48 Hr live-stream 8/23/13 to benefit Child's play in TF2 General Discussion
DarthPopsSadly, the weekend after is Labor Day, and I don't want to conflict with other weekend plans.

What about the weekend after that? Or any other weekend?

And I'm going to be a total buzzkill, but how do we know that the donations will actually go to the charity and not just to the organizers?

I'm all for charity streams, but I don't know who you are, and you just made an account today, so it should be understandable that I'm a little suspicious. :/

On the other hand, since you are new to tf.tv, there was a big 48-hour charity stream for One Step Camp in March. It involved a lot of work and a lot of people, so you may want to talk to some of the people who were involved if you're serious about this.

#8 UberCounter: Android App For Medics in TF2 General Discussion

The idea is kind of neat, but the app requests far too many permissions for what it does.
Please do not request permissions you do not need.

EDIT: I don't know how to make the spoiler tag not take up so much space, sorry. :<

Permissions
THIS APPLICATION HAS ACCESS TO THE FOLLOWING:
YOUR LOCATION
APPROXIMATE LOCATION (NETWORK-BASED)
Allows the app to get your approximate location. This location is derived by location services using network location sources such as cell towers and Wi-Fi. These location services must be turned on and available to your device for the app to use them. Apps may use this to determine approximately where you are.
PRECISE LOCATION (GPS AND NETWORK-BASED)
Allows the app to get your precise location using the Global Positioning System (GPS) or network location sources such as cell towers and Wi-Fi. These location services must be turned on and available to your device for the app to use them. Apps may use this to determine where you are, and may consume additional battery power.
YOUR MESSAGES
RECEIVE TEXT MESSAGES (SMS)
Allows the app to receive and process SMS messages. This means the app could monitor or delete messages sent to your device without showing them to you.
NETWORK COMMUNICATION
FULL NETWORK ACCESS
Allows the app to create network sockets and use custom network protocols. The browser and other applications provide means to send data to the internet, so this permission is not required to send data to the internet.
STORAGE
MODIFY OR DELETE THE CONTENTS OF YOUR USB STORAGE
Allows the app to write to the USB storage.
CAMERA
TAKE PICTURES AND VIDEOS
Allows the app to take pictures and videos with the camera. This permission allows the app to use the camera at any time without your confirmation.
MICROPHONE
RECORD AUDIO
record audio
YOUR SOCIAL INFORMATION
READ YOUR CONTACTS
Allows the app to read data about your contacts stored on your device, including the frequency with which you've called, emailed, or communicated in other ways with specific individuals. This permission allows apps to save your contact data, and malicious apps may share contact data without your knowledge.
MODIFY YOUR CONTACTS
Allows the app to modify the data about your contacts stored on your device, including the frequency with which you've called, emailed, or communicated in other ways with specific contacts. This permission allows apps to delete contact data.

#9 Need your feedback please! in TF2 General Discussion
vanillaSpy frags tend to not be all that entertaining as most of the time it's just someone clicking on someone's back.

But by that logic, sniper frag videos are "just" clicking on people's heads...

I agree with gr8stalin that the bloopers at the end seemed a little longer than necessary. The blooper clips themselves were interesting, but they seemed a bit tacked on and lacked the flow of the rest of the video.

That's the only criticism I had really. Overall, it was pretty good. I quite liked the music and weapon switching sync at 1:30. :)

#222 How to Get to In-Game Comp Lobbies in TF2 General Discussion
ScorpiouprisingImplementing an entirely new, untested pick/ban system? Holy shit. Those playtests are going to be HELL. Getting 18 people into a mumble, looking through a list of 200 items and making choices about what to use, what to ban, remembering what items are available/unavailable, who picked what, whose turn it is to pick. ETC ETC.

1) Pick/ban is not completely new; it already exists in Dota. Yes, it's not exactly the same, but the general architecture already exists.

2) Mumble is most certainly not going to be involved in an official Valve lobby option.
Subsequently, the selection system is probably going to be much simpler than "everyone has to unanimously agree on all the choices."

3) Your example of testing a new map is not exactly the same. If Valve wanted to test a map, they could simply roll it out to all the players by adding it to the official map list.

An enormous amount of data would be gathered even if few people play the map because it sucks (which in itself is data!) without any sort of manual effort on the map tester's part.

This last part is precisely what Valve is trying to do with an official pick/ban system: collect a vast amount of data from the large and diverse player base.

#199 How to Get to In-Game Comp Lobbies in TF2 General Discussion
CpriceFrom a competitive standpoint a stagnant meta is actually a good thing.

Not necessarily for all games. The Dota2 meta changes all the time, and it seems like that is the primary game that Robin is using for comparison.

ScorpiouprisingYou should probably count the number of items available in TF2 if you really want to implement this. Think about scrolling through a web menu with EVERY unlock that is currently available can be clicked on. Sounds like a nightmare to me.

Dota2 has over a hundred heroes and a very rough estimate of the weapon count is probably around 200 weapons, so it doesn't seem like it would really be that much more complicated.

Whether or not a pick/ban system is appropriate is an entirely separate issue. I'm still unclear on what exactly the desired outcome of that is going to be.

I'm making a lot of Dota2 references as it certainly seems like that this new Valve interest in comp TF2 is influenced by the wild success of both pub and comp Dota2, and I'm thrilled to see that they are considering HL as an option, even if lots of 6s players don't like it as much.

#46 would it help? in TF2 General Discussion
ShounicI think you guys should stop fretting about the color scheme so much on NIU_NIU's design. It really isn't that hard to change the color of the few shapes he has in photoshop. The bigger problem is how to get all the information needed onto the screen.

I actually prefer NIU_NIU's layout and darker color scheme over the lighter tf.tv theme.

What I was trying to say is that, depending on how attached tf.tv is to its current color scheme, NIU_NIU may want to consider having a light theme available as an option.

Otherwise, if no one cares, I think that what NIU_NIU has presented so far is definitely an improvement (both layout and color scheme).

I really like the revised icons (black vs. split red/blue) and the color scheme fits into the current tf.tv theme very nicely.

NIU_NIU's stuff is also pretty nice although it would require somewhat of a theme change from tf.tv, which may not desirable depending on how much tf.tv has established its "brand."

#6 would it help? in TF2 General Discussion

This is really nice! I agree that class icons would be better and that the soldier should probably be holding the rocket launcher, since right now the silhouette almost like a Heavy.

I actually think the color scheme looks nice, but if this were to be included in official tf.tv streams, you might want to have it match the lighter theme that is already in use.

i am also good at the photoshop

slomo rockets

Starts at 37:56 on this video: http://www.twitch.tv/seanbud/b/398725079

Also, I don't see why Fog isn't allowed to ban whatever he wants on his servers just as seanbud is allowed to ban whomever he wants from his stream chat.

#9 BIG BOYS Looking 4 Scout & Pocket in Recruitment (looking for team)
pet_alt_alti'm so happy to see that this team is staying alive

it's important for bad teams to stick together so that they can eventually make it to invite without actually improving or learning how to play, in effect further degrading the already low level of play in the game's highest divisions

If you're going to be an ass on everyone's thread, you could at least do it on your own account instead of hiding behind an alt.

#29 yuki's demo reviews in Mentoring

Just posting to let you know that I have enjoyed your demo reviews for scout and have found them to be very informative.

I am also glad to see you apologize to Kohaku and for offering to remove the VOD. I don't mind a harsh review, but it was uncalled for to do it on someone who didn't ask for one, so thank you for admitting fault and being respectful about the whole thing.

#19 TF2 on the verge of being unplayable in Q/A Help
redbanIf I don't notice any improvement, then I'll look into upgrading some parts.

Don't upgrade too many parts though, because beyond a certain price range, you'd really be better off just getting a new computer if you can afford it.

But yes, cleaning the computer should definitely help. I started getting awful FPS in all games I was playing, so I opened the computer and cleaned out a massive wad of dust (mostly over the vent). Instant performance improvement.
