#108 If TF2 comes to ESL - What would you like to see? in TF2 General Discussion

We haven't been able to look much deeper into the situation yet, with the information that people have given us. I will say that plenty of members from the community have reached out to us, explaining how things are being run, telling me how awesome the various competitive community managers are. I would have to agree - they're doing an amazing job!

I feel like I also have to clarify something... We're not discussing and deciding things behind the community's back, together with other community members. I have people reach out to me, offering help and advice, that's all it is. b4nny just happend to be one of those people.

Please try not to speculate too much and come to the conclusion that we treat the rest of the community unfairly. No, we treat everyone equally, and if you want to help us, you can. Every single person that has reached out to me can attest that.

None of the conversations that I have had with the community in private, will be shared by me. That would defeat the whole point. Some people might be afraid that their own opinion may be frowned upon by certain members of the community, which is sad, but very much the reality on the internet. :(

Moving forward, I'm hoping that we can have a more civilized discussion. There's always going to be lemons out there, but let's try our hardest to not be sour. :D

I understand that some players don't want to hear that if it happens, that we're going to start with and possibly only host EU cups. It's quite complicated, and I can't get into any of the details.

As an alternative, we will use this rule:

Team nationality
In general, during matches of ESL national sections, at all times in-game a team must have more than 50% of its players that are residing in or have the nationality of the country or countries that the national section represents.

In addition, I also understand that if we do use this rule, that ping may not be ideal for some players, but that's where we will start. If expanding is an option later on, we will strongly consider it.

#1 If TF2 comes to ESL - What would you like to see? in TF2 General Discussion

Hello everyone!

I would like to get a broader understanding of what the competitive community wants to see the most, therefore more input is better.

  • Format
  • Rules
  • Other?

Feel free to contact me in the r/tf2 or the teamfortress.tv Discord server(s). If you don't like to share your opinion in public, I'm also responding to DM's as well, @Citru#7026

Best regards,
Citru

HildrethReal questions here aside from blind optimism people show in something like this.

Situation with ESL AC Client? I haven't paid any attention to ESL since it left TF2 the first time, but a lot of people had issue with the ESL Wire Client, which contributed to the less than impressive signups (though would probably be a realistic goal for them by todays standards). At the time I was a Div 5 player, so there was no incentive to play ESL, experience these issues when ETF2L was offering the same but with less problems.

Wire should not be causing any issues, just plug and play.

I see that people are mentioning other organisations as well. We will not step on anyone's toes, if they have a set schedule, it's best to avoid hosting ours at the same time -- that will only be bad for everyone, I can't see nothing good come from it.

As a reminder, and I will update my thread on reddit as well to include this: I'm hanging out on the r/tf2 Discord server as @Citru. If you would rather ask questions there instead, feel free to do so. :)
