#32 What frag movie would you show to ignorant plebs? in Videos

if it's questionable enough for an entire tf.tv thread, it should be good enough for your friends.

#6 What is a good HUD that don't use custom files in Customization

pindahud/pindab0terhud is a pretty interesting HUD that actually tries something different for once (crazy, I know):

Otherwise, I would recommend the tried-and-true PVHUD:

#18 Good fonts? in Customization

HUDs should, first and foremost, be informative. This requires that the text be legible. Because of this, an ideal font will have some key characteristics:

  1. Sans-serif: on digital displays and in short strings, sans-serif fonts have an advantage, especially with smaller resolutions.
  2. Distinct numerals: since most HUD strings are numerical, it is important to have numbers that are easy to recognize in your peripheral vision or at-a-glance. Geometric typefaces at small font sizes often have issues with this. You may want to consider typefaces specifically made for traffic, which excel in this department.
  3. Stroke width: TF2 seems to have rendering issues with light/"thin" typefaces, especially at smaller resolutions. As a rule of thumb, avoid Thin, Light, Ultralight, and Hairline weights.
  4. Case: all-caps or small caps hurt readability, and should be avoided in important strings.
  5. Character set: free typefaces often lack certain glyphs, such as the colon or addition/subtraction symbols. Avoid these (or add your own glyphs) if your HUD makes use of these characters.
  6. Scale: some typefaces are only made for certain display sizes and scale poorly; others look very different depending on their display size and/or resolution. Use typefaces that work for your situation.

This is not a complete list, but it should help you avoid the pitfalls that I see in so many custom HUDs with poor font usage. I would recommend that you use two distinct typefaces; this gives you more flexibility, and harmonizes an otherwise incoherent design.

#8 Can't see .ss or .logs ingame in Q/A Help

Thanks for the response, wonderland. I checked IE and it wasn't connecting; I allowed it through the firewall and got IE working, but that did not fix the issue. I also lowered some security settings in IE but that didn't fix it either; neither did creating the textwindow_temp.html file.

Per yuice's suggestion, I could see FirePowered's MOTD after validating (I had no way to quickly test SizzlingStats or Logs.tf); however, as yuice also mentioned, it only works once before failing to load again, which then requires me to re-validate.

the only requirement to being "comp worthy" is the drive to become a better player.

#4 Can't see .ss or .logs ingame in Q/A Help

The window does appear, just as it does whenever I join a server with an HTML MOTD; however, it is always blank grey, and no amount of waiting or refreshing seems to fix it.

This has been affecting me regardless of HUD, including default HUD.

#1 Can't see .ss or .logs ingame in Q/A Help

For a couple months or so now, I haven't been able to see SizzlingStats or Logs.tf in the ingame HTML window, regardless of the server I'm on. I think I can't see HTML MOTDs at all, but I have cl_disablehtmlmotd 0. I know it's not a HUD issue.

Anyone else experiencing the same thing or have a suggestion?

universei never thought tftv would get this serious about a yellow crosshair

#4 Color values for yellow crosshair? in Customization

technically yellow can be any combination of RGBA values as long as R and G are both within 50% of the other and greater than B, with some non-zero value for A

#4282 Show your HUD modifications! in Customization
xattuuretrogradefont is too big for the boxes and the boxes are dumb - in the main vertical section on the left they are of varying height, too. smhthis is people trying out new ideas, creating what they want to make , not something for you. dont be rude

While I agree that retro was being an ass, posting in a public forum implicitly invites other people to voice their opinions and criticisms.

This thread is almost 4,300 posts long with maybe 100 posts actually worth looking at. Perhaps a little criticism is necessary to ward off low-quality posts.
